Hi
I was just wondering if it is possible to put a VS Series 2 Engine into a VR series 2? Both engines are 3.8ltr V6's.
I'm assuming it will be no problem as the engines are nearly identical but thought i'd get a more experienced opinion before "diving in" lol
basically it's a VS 95 model Series 2 sedan engine (174,000Km's) replacing the engine in my VR 94 model Series 2 Wagon (320,000KM's).
So am i crazy for even thinking of attempting this or is it actually possible?
Cheers!
VR = Buick 3800 V6 3.8ltr
VS = Ecotec V6 3.8ltr
vr ecotec conversion

Won't be as straight forward as you might think mate.
Both are completely different engines, the wiring will probably be the biggest job, you will need the computer and looms from the VS
I call bs on VZ motor.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
I'm getting the whole car (the VS) it's just way out of rego but the engine is fine so anything off it that i will need is no
problem
Was going to use the the computer and associated wiring from the VS just to be safe.
.
So if i use the computer and wiring etc from the VS and get it to fit properly in the engine bay i should be ok? as in the VS engine will physically fit
in the VR's engine bay and all boltholes etc etc will line up?
Any other possible pitfalls that i haven't anticipated? lol!
Thanks

So basically "fitting" the engine in shouldn't be too much of a problem
but making sure all the connections to the sensors from the computer will reach thier
appropiate sensor and routing the cables (safely) around the engine is going to be the tricky part.
Well i'm still in the process of getting the engine so will let u all know how it go's once i get it and drop it in!
Thanks
Hi
Just letting you all know i decided to ditch the "Engine Transfer" plan as it sounds like i'm biting off more than i can chew. It's just my neighbour reckoned it would be easy as but i thought i'd check with some more experienced people and i'm glad i did!
Anyway i scored a 96 VS that go's sweet as, just needs a new key but i found one of your helpful "How-To's" on fixing it myself so that's no problem thanks to you guys! (i love those "How-To's").
Thanks for the help and advice!
Honestly if you took all of the wiring from the VS eith engine and auto box, dumped it in the VR you wouldn't have an issue.
People are often put off by the concept of transferring looms or doing any wiring but it could be done as a direct swap (BCM and all) would take a whole weekend for the not so experienced and the hardest part is pulling out ALL of the interior and putting it all back in correctly.
But since you scored a swwet VS thats even easier :P
