im looking at a ex ambo 2000 model long wheelbase and im not sure on if the canopy can be removed or when removed the ute is standard
what i mean is if it leave a standard long wheel base ute or if any mods are req.
also the model is vs 2000 but i thuoght it would be called a vt , vx
and what everyone thinks of them as a work ute (im a builder so it will be loaded al the time)
Go to QLD Transport website - there is a PDF file on modifications there, but from my own experience, unless you ex-ambo has a mod plate already stating that it has been modified, then removal of the canopy will not contravene any laws....you are not altering the seating etc. QT have a 13 number you can ring re mods as well...I've found them helpful so maybe give them a ring. I wouldn't buy it if comes without a RWC/Safety Certificate becausde if one is issued it means it is legal.....no RWC and you may find you need to get a mod plate.
Sorry I can not be of more help.

As for the confusal between VS and VT/VX:
There was never a VT/VX ute, the VS ute range stayed from the end of the VS Sedan/Wagon range in 1997 until the VU Ute was introduced in 2001.
Some latter model VS utes have all VT running gear.
if you look on here (search function) i remember seeing someone with an ex ambo ute, the long wheel base version that is.
from memory again i believe it was an extended wheelbase of the regular ute
im sure from memory they took the canopy off and it was fine, and ive seen a few around before with no canopy.
as for work purposes go for it. and why not keep the canopy on as you can lock tools and so forth in there
as said above the vs ute finished in 2000 as a series 3.
A pic of my VR ute with the canopy removed (that toolbox is gone now), and a quick google search of the original canopy. It's fine, mine has two hatches, one with the fuel tank and a bit of space and one totally empty which I can lock as I put tools and coolant etc in. It's just a tray without the canopy.
thanks for the info
would have been a great work ute but i was a 1000 short on what they wanted
