Engine fault light comes on and stays on but fault code says no fault?

Hello Guys I have a series 2 VS wagon ecotec
Lately after I have been driving for about a minute my engine light comes on and stays on (solid). Occasionally it is ok and stays off.
If I turn off the engine and short out pins 5 and 6 the code 12 comes up.
I have looked in my Ellery manual and is says "not a fault code, see engine turn over but won't start"
I also think the car is a bit more sluggish than it normally is when the fault light is on.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

Try resetting your ecu to start with. Disconnect the battery and leave it off for a while

You probably already know, but you will always get the fault code 12 displayed 3 times, did you wait for the next batch of flashes?

You can also rev your engine to 3000 rpm for 20 seconds ...... This will also reset your ecu
