    Default code 68

    hey all my vr v8 auto threw a code at me on the way to the goldy on friday. it was code 68 which is auto trans component slipping. can anyone give me some possible causes and solutions to fix this . thanx heaps

    Could be anything man, I have gotten the same thing, could be Accumulators, Speed Sensor, TPS, Clutches, Valve body gasket cracked.
    If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!

    First thing you should do is get the transmission serviced - this will give you a new filter, gasket and transmission fluid. The fluid can degrade and act funny over time and also when it overheats (which is probably what code 68 slipping is causing). You can do it yourself for about $50 or $130 or so at a mechanic. Then see how it goes....if still slipping then the cheapest fix is a can of "stop slip" added to the trans. Other than that it will be cost at least $1000 and upwards to fix if the transmission has to be worked on. Your VR is 16 years old and getting tired.

    i serviced tranny wen i first got it so that parts fine car doesnt seem to be slipping though and i only had this problem mainly on steep climbs to the goldy but u are right it would be getting tired lol wen the light comes on the dash i can just turn car off and turn it bak on and its fine but while ever the light is on it has real harsh 1st to 2nd gear changes.......
