I have just finished replacing the distributor and intake gaskets on a vr v8, when it came to set the timing, i put the timing light on no 1 lead and wanted to look at the timing marks before putting it into diagnostic mode. When i checked this it was showing about 16 degrees which i thought would be right as the distributor has just been dropped in.
So i then bridged the 5 and 6 connectors and got the engine light flashing.
What seemed to be strange is when i checked the timing the second time in diagnostic mode it was showing spot on 10 degrees.engine fired up first time after the job was completed.
at this stage i left it how it was, locked up the dizzy bolt(nightmare) and took it for a drive. The car performed like a rocket and no pinging.
IS THERE SOMETHING THAT I HAVE DONE WRONG, ANY IDEAS ON THIS.
I think 10 deg is still to high but you say the car is driving great,I know that when I had a v8 the timing was set at about 3deg
