    Question Radiator/pressure problem??

Hi guys my SS is using aliitle bit of coolant but can not find it but after a good hours driving I popped the hood while still running the radiator cap was cool, so I opened it and saw no water, it only takes like 200-300mls but I'm guessing even with a leak the system should be full of pressureand at least hot.

have you checked hoses.... after running for bit check make sure top and bottom radiator hosed are hot ( just to check no blockage ) also could check thermostate. If its stuffed it may not be opening ( if thats case tho car would be running hot )

I didn't check bottom but top was warm/hot. Never ever gets hot never has been past the quarter mark even when I'm in the city. I did change a heater tap a couple of weeks back but dunno if it's related, it was corroded and loosing water from tap but still haven't got the leek.

If you blokes are able to remove the radiator cap whilst the engine is hot after a drive, it means that the cap is not sealing. the system will be pressurised after a run...even one of 5 minutes, and if you attempt to take the cap off you will get sprayed with coolant...generally hot coolant. But if you are able to remove it with no pressure behind it then it means the radiator cap is not sealing.
As a rule, you should never remove the radiator cap when the top radiator hose is hot and cannot be squeezed. A bad radiator cap will allow the engine to boil at 100C instead of 130C....and when this happens, coolant will be dumped from the overflow tank on to the ground....you probably will not notice this as it happens after you switch the engine off and is due to heat soak raising the coolant temp and making it boil.

If you pressurise the system it wont tell you if its the cap because the cap has to be off the radiator for you to pressurise it,but it will show you any leaks it has I have the same issue but I cant tell where the leak is coming from so good luck
