    Post Coolant leak problem

I have coolant leaking really bad but its not leaking out of any hoses or the radiator or the (water pump as I thought it was) but it seems to be leaking out from the crank pulley area is this a possibility? If anyone has any knowledge can you please reply asap as I am having to add lots of coolant everyday and Im worried that this may cause a more serious problem to the engine if not repaired quickly.

It sounds like the timing cover is leaking, its a big job to fix, you can sorta cheat and drop the front of your sump gasket down and fill it full of goo and hope it seals the put the timing cover back on (as the sump bolts to the bottom of the timing cover). You basically have to disassemble the front of the engine to get it off.

Both times I did a water pump it looked like it was coming from well under the pump, so is there any chance you may be mistaken and it is coming from the pump? The coolant doesn't leave a trace a it runs over oiled surfaces.

The system has been pressure tested and at that stage the only leaks were coming from a few hoses which I tightened up really tight this time around, but when I take the car for a drive and then have a look at the motor there are signs of coolant spray marks on either side of the water pump one is the bottom radiator hose and the other is I think the heater hose, there is coolant also present on the tensioner pully so I thought its the water pump. But when I clean up all the coolant and have the car running, just idling there is no coolant leaking from anywhere else except you can notice it pouring out from the crank pulley area, would it be the water pump maybe leaking internally and then coming out from the crank pulley ? Any more thoughts hako or anyone else ? I think I might need to pressure test it again while the car is jacked up maybe then I might be able to see excactly where the leak is coming from but so far I have no option but to do what VK SL 3800 has recommended, cheers for your help so far.

It could be the gasket on the water pump leaking....although they rarely fail unless the mating surfaces have bad corrosion...not the inlet manifold leaking?....timing cover means a lot of work!!

I dont think its the inlet manifold the leak is lower than that, its leaking from crank pulley area then going all over the sump everything above the pulley is dry and your not kidding when you say the timing cover means alot of work,Ive started pulling my hair out already just thinking about it.

Thanx for all your replies and thoughts everyone, the leak has been fixed it turned out to be the water pump after all,the seal was stuffed and also 3 of the bolts were totally rusted and threaded and the gasket was none exsistant it was totally shredded, hako you were 100% correct about the gasket, and while I was at it I also needed to replace the whole of the tensioner pulley system so Im very glad it wasnt the timing cover so thanx again cheers.
