Hi guys
i have a vn commodore and a vr as a second ( experiment ) car
The original motor from the vr ( auto ) gave up so i fitted series 1 v6 & did the manual conversion at the same time from a vn i broke up for parts a while ago
The car runs , drives does everything it should thats no drama's ( thats the easy part )
However because it is a series 1 motor from a vn , It doesn't run a cam sensor , as we know vn doesnt have cam sensor.
So she idle's at 1500 to 2000 and has a flatspot on acceleration
I have send injectors away for cleaning , changed IAC motor re-set base idle played around with memcals ect
Now for abit of a play i was thinking of re-wiring a vn computer ( complete unit ) into the vr's wiring harness
Just curious to see what you guys think , if its been done anything like that
Any comments would be much appreciated
Cheers
Will be easy I think. Use a VN - or anything else with a 1227808 ECM - plug, pull the pins out one by one and swap them over.
VN's use two sinks for the injectors, they're just linked together (VR are not), otherwise no difference.
There may be an issue with the speed signal, which may also be why you have the problem with the idle. The speed sensor is the same it will just be the way in which it is connected.
Change the timing cover to the VR setup where it runs a cam angle sensor. Can't guarantee this will fix you problem though as the two engines have internal differences.
Never be afraid to try new things; remember amateurs build the ark while professionals build the Titanic.
just plug in the whole vn engine loom one plug under the dash and 3 plugs at the battery and away you go pretty much worst thing will be the ecu will see to many pulses from the speedo sender on vr as vr normally runs the sender direct to the ecu then to the dash but that can be changed in the tune
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
