just use an angle grinder, make sure to wear safety glasses though.
but seriously. more info is needed, however...
this is a basic version of events.
1. undo wheel nuts
2. jack car up and put on stands/hoist
3. take wheels off
4. put spring clamps onto spring and tighten, make sure its all even
5. undo main bolts holding the (correct me if im wrong) shockers (the top bolts)
6. take springs off
7. and i cannot stress this more do not completely undo one spring clamp all the way. do them evenly so the spring doesnt fly out taking you with it
do the reverse of this to put new ones in.
although it may differ depending on the suspension system
If your car already has lowered spring and you have a big enough jack they sprigs will fall out on their own, otherwise your best to head down to supercheap and grab a set of spring compressors for about $50. Jack up your car and apply the springs compressors and pull em' out...
if your car is already lowered it makes things much easier, i can change the springs in my irs in about 20 minutes. Never done the fronts on any car, ive heard there a bit of a bitch and time consuming
The springs shouldn't just fall out, you need shorter shock absorbers 304runner.
Again the process between front and rear is very different, and IRS to live axle in the rear differs too, I have only ever needed spring compressors for the front strut assembly, never needed them on the rear for any size spring an any commodore.
They fall out in my Ute... Does that mean I need shorter shocks?
And now i think about it this happens to every one of my mates lowered cars, IFS or Beam rear end.
It's happened in both my cars, and nearly all my mates to.
That's what cable ties are for....

behind your brake rotors will be two bolts at the bottom of the strut undo these than the bottom should be loose
the brake hose is attached to the strut two you have to twist the little pastic thing than it slides out
also you have a sway bar link attached to the strut undo the nuts off it and pull it out
now go into your engine bay to the top of the strut and undo all the nuts from that be sure to put somthing under the strut to keep it from falling out
once you have undone all the nuts the whole strut and spring should come out
now get your spring compressors and compress the spring until it is loose than get a 10mm spanner and i think a 22 or 24 not to sure onto the top of the strut this is the hard bit getting that undone
once you have that undone there is one more nut which is pretty easy to get off
than everything else slides off with it make sure u remember how everything goes back on
you are most likely going to need two new strut top bearings as they fall apart most of the time when taking out springs
repeat this for other side
the back is pretty simple jack car up take off wheel
undo the bottom nut off your shocks pull the bottom of your shock off
lower diff as far as it can go without breaking the brake hose
than put spring compressors on your spring and compress them until you can get your spring out
repeat for other side
i may have forgot some things two as it has been a while since i did mine but this just gives you a rough idea of what to do
hope it helps
your meant to run shorter rear shockers with shorter springs especially if the springs can be taken out by hand with the rear of the car jacked up, whether 99% of people do it or not is not what I said, it's not worth arguing over, back to the OP
Have you done it yet and how did you go?
The amount of travel a jack can make far exceeds anything the car will experience in it's life time so it's not a concern. I had the same thing but it was a good 30 centimetres from top of tire to guard before it was lose enough to fall out on it's own.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
if you have standard shocks and ssl springs than you may have problems if you take on steep driveways at an angle
Like I said, your meant to run shorter shocks. I have super lows in my car with shorter rear shock absorbers, I think they cost $60 brand new from Repco for the rears, the fronts are more expensive but since that spring is captive you have more of a choice as to whether you do it or not, I did but it didn't seem to make a difference so I wont be forking out for shorter fronts again.
Still keen to hear if the OP managed to get the job done
im about to start it now, just had to get rid of the hangover hahathanks for all the help guys, its vs exec II and im just taking out the rears (its all stock atm)

IRS is independent rear suspension which means the axles move independantly of the diff and solid axle means it all moves horizontaly together
do you know what a vs exec II have?

Live axle.
umm not to sure about that my berlina is irs i thought executive might have been live axle, to the op jack car up take wheels off while on stands and take a pic and post it well let u know
if your rear end looks a little like this it is a solid axle [IMG][/IMG]
if it looks a little like this it is independant rear [IMG][/IMG]
