    Default VS with L67

    Hey guys,

Soon ill be looking to buy a L67 Supercharged V6. Theres a few around and they all come with all bolt ons, ecu, wiring loom, transmission etc.

Just have some questions before I go out and buy one. First of all, its going in a VS Berlina (currently has a LG2 Ecotec V6).

I had my diff reconditioned last year, its a standard live axle, not lsd or anything special. And I spent $900 on the exhaust system. Pacemaker extractors, 2.5" redback exhaust and 1 redback sports muffler, standard cat.

    Questions.

    1. Can I use my diff, with the supercharged V6?
    2. Can I use the exhaust system I currently have?
    3. I fitted a genuine Cold Air Intake, K&N Air Filter can I still use that?
    4. Do I need to fit an intercooler? (Some people say its essential).
    5. Will my brakes be alright? (RDA Slotted Rotors, Bendix General CT Pads).
    6. At the moment the VS is running a dual fuel setup (ULP and LPG) can I still run LPG with the L67 motor (as well as ULP) or is it not recommended?

I know that I have to change the fuel pump as well.

I have never done an engine conversion before, but at work, I have put reconditioned engines, in a VR Calais, a VX Executive, and a Toyota Hiace Van. So I know what i'm doing when it comes to taking engines out and putting them back in.

Anyone help on this subject would be greatly appreciated, if I think of anymore questions I will post them up. Also any updates to my VS Berlina (including conversion when it starts) will be on the thread below (my ride, VS Berlina).

    Thanks in advance.

    A few points...

    1. Yes your diff will be fine. A limo would be preferable, but not essential if you're sensible on the right foot.
    2. Exhaust will be fine and will all bolt up the same without any mods. Any performance increase on stock though and it would really benefit from a free flowing twin system.
    3. Yes. The genuine VS cai is what was actually fitted to the VS L67 from factory.
    4. No. Of course you'll see some really impressive gains with either a w2a or a2a intercooler setup, but its certainly not necessary untill you work the motor quite a bit and run the blower much faster than stock.
    5. Yes. Factory L67 cars never had upgraded brakes from the factory.

Something else to note is that you're most likely going to source an L67 conversion from a vt-vy (as they were much more common in these models than the vs). If so, will will need to add an additional coolant temp sender (to work the cluster temp gauge) at the rear of the manifold under the thermostat. The thread is 1/8 npt.

Wiring and tune wise you can go a few ways. In my opinion you'd be best to use your current ecotec engine harness and pcm. To do this you need to have an L67 tune burnt to your memcal and the wiring harness will need to be extended approx 150mm on each plug on the drivers side (canister purge solenoid, 3 injectors, earth, oil pressure sensor and knock sensor). By using the ecotec harness you also bypass the dual stage fuel pressure reg and the boost control solenoid as the loom will not contain the necessary plugs (a good thing in my opinion). The alternative to this is to source a factory vs L67 engine harness and pcm which are becoming rare and pricey.
Yes fuel pump will need to be upgraded as the ecotec pump will quickly max out at wide open throttle and run lean. VS L67 pumps are no longer available so you will probably have to find an equivalent walbro intank pump or similar.
Hope that gives you a start.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

Thanks Chris, thats great advice. One other question that I stupidly forgot to put up (a main question as well), at the moment the VS is running a dual fuel setup (ULP and LPG) can I still run LPG with the L67 motor (as well as ULP) or is it not recommended?

Can't really help with that one sorry as I have very little experience with LPG systems. I am inclined to think it may not be the best with a forced induction setup, but thats only a guess and could be way off sorry. Jump onto l67torque.com heaps of L67 specific knowledge there.

I can't help with the LPG issue but I do have a warranted question... If you want the power of the L67 why do you want to keep LPG... Keep the L67 un-molested and throw that LPG on ya mums car...

Thats a fair enough question. The only reason I converted the car to LPG in the first place is because I drive from Ballarat to Melbourne everyday in it and its cheaper to run on LPG. If I wasn't working in Melbourne I would have left it on petrol only. I usually run petrol on the weekends when i'm cruising around town. Also when I go to work, I run it on petrol for the first 10kms and the about 10kms before I get to work.

Also my mums car already runs LPG haha.

Ok so I just bought a L67 motor with everything, its out of a VY Calais.

With the LPG system currently in the VS, I will be removing the complete setup when the time comes to fit this engine and will more then likely sell it.
