Hey. I'm buying a vs stato v6. Now I want to know what's the best way to get more power out of it! After driving my vn which the motor seized onthe weekend but it had more power then the stato! N the vn has had no mods just stock standard where at te stato has had extractors n exhaust. But I want power! What u think I could do?

The VS statesman will weigh a lot more than the VN commodore,so you cant really compare the two, performance wise.If you just want it to go good, then you are much better off starting off with a commodore because its lighter, but has the same engine as the statesman..You can spend money and fit better camshafts, get a memcal tune done, fit extractors and sports type exhaust..etc etc.The best bang for your buck would be getting a decent camshaft fitted and getting a tune done to match the cam specs.

    Get some bits from MACE:

    Cam
    Memcal
    Extractors/Catback
    Shift Kit
    CAI
    Manifold Spacer

Do that and you will have a nice powerful cruiser

I have done about half of that list to my VS and it keeps up easily with my mates VN V8 and is much more comfortable to drive :P

The camshaft is the only item that will give a really noticable performance gain, and thats where Id start. Most people who own a V6 have fited a CAI,the extractors and chip etc etc,and most people will tell you that theres not that much of a gain in performance..Yeah,it will definitely go better, but not by a great deal.I havent been in a car with the manifold spacers fitted, but a lot of people post up on here that theres only slight gains to be had by these also...
Old mates VN V8 cant be much chop if a V6 stays with it.

just change the diff gears easiest way to feel like you have a v8 monster up to 100 clicks. vn v8 is easy to chop in a v6 with noly minor work to the v6. just need to look at the times provided by gm to prove that. Had a v8 badge on a v6 once. was racing a vh 308 with work done and he only just got ahead. at the servo he was chuffed at beating a vn v8 till i told him it was just a v6

A V8 will usually leave a V6 behind once they are over say, 120 kph or thereabouts...They can be pretty even up until the V8 starts to stretch its legs. And yeah, lower diff gears will certainly make a difference to the vehicles pickup, but they will also effect the top end speed, and the cruising revs, which can effect the fuel consumption if you do a lot of highway driving.

Thats why I only have a 6.Ive owned a lot of V8's over the years, but back in the days when you could actually use them and drive at high speed without the fear of huge fines and/or going to gaol. These days its just a joke, but because theres so many people who seriously cant drive properly, let alone drive safely at high speeds,we all have to suffer. This country needs to look a germanys autobahns and vehicle licencing rules, and follow their ideas. We should have dead straight, 10 lane wide each way concrete freeways, running across the country, the main one being from melbourne to canberra, canberra to sydney, then sydney to brisbane.Melbourne to brisbane should be just a few hours drive away..Most country highways (new england highway) still follow the original paths that the first horse and carts made and used 200 years ago...Its just ridiculous...The aussie government can send millions in aid overseas, and we all know these poor people never get this money, their dodgey governments keep it and buy themselves mansions in monaco.
Maybe all the politicians dont feel how dodgey our roads are in their softly sprung limos. And they wouldnt know anything about driving up /down /across our so called major highways, they just fly everywhere at our expense instead..

there has been a planned perth to adelaide hway since before i was born, all the land is purchased , its marked as proposed and nothing has been done about it and im nearly 30. yet both roads leading out of perth are shafted, rutts, poor condition cat eyes, barely see the lines and doushes doing 40 below the limit . what makes matters worse is the ever infringing population on the main motor sport areas, the closing down of them due to so called noise polution hence the reduction of places to do it. the constant rants on tv about hooning etc etc makes it not worth doing anything to your car or enjoying you car.

so to the op dont bother, the laws are changing if you think its bad now wait a few years and the only place you can have your modified fuel guzzler is parked in your garage

yeah but its becoming obselete very quickly, rear facing cameras are putting an end to it. cameras everywhere, at every red light camera, hidden in vans , unmarks in every model available , cameras that dont flash or signs to say you have gone through a speed trap. then there is a delay in getting the fines, well over a month so you could have already lost your licence without knowing. they were even talking about slapping you with demerit points for being less than 8 km over. yet there is nothing out there to make sure manufacturers are fully calibrating speedos. then from the go doers there is the point of saying if you dont speed you dont get caught. i dont think many people have the luxury of keeping their eyes 100 percent on your speedo with the amount of other dangerous crap going on.
i was testing a car on a quiet culdesac , unlic trying to tune it for the pits drove 200 meters and had someone that just moved in on the street dob me in and 20 minutes later cops were at my door. thats quicker than most of cops attending the scene of a crime of more serious nature. too much is being focused on speeding than the rest of the crap going on.

Thats nothing, here in SA (nanny state with cameras on almost every intersection) the tolerance is 3km on 60 zones

So if your doing 3km or more over your done

but loss of points also? 3kms is barely the tolerance allowable in the manufacture of speedos

I think its still 3-4 points, thats why you see most of the P platers in SA sticking 10km bellow the speed limit and promoting road rage as drifting only a couple of K's over the speed limit can potentially be a loss of license for them.
