Hi, sorry if im posting in the wrong place but i really have no idea where i should be posting...
Basically i would love to know if any1 knows of a good place in NSW to find a roof lining for a VS wagon. I have tried most wreckers and all the roof lining's are crap.
Any help would be awesome =D
Thanks.
1) An automotive trimmer - Yellow Pages
2) There is a 'How To' on replacing the headlining yourself on here. There are a few ways to go about it.
3) A GMH dealer. One may still have them in stock.
As you have found, wreckers aren't much help unless you luck out and find a car that has had the headlining replaced recently.
is it just the material sagging or the board itself its mounted onto??
i restuck my material to the board myself, bit of trial and error with adhesives but i think it was contact cement i ended up going with, came up perfect and hasn't sagged nearly 4 years on, however the board it is stuck onto has started to warp and sag, which is eff'd!
you need to wet the cardboard backing, remould it by hand, then put weights on it and brace it in the correct shape then let it dry.
A finishing touch to preserve the shape of a previously warped backing is to coat the back of it in epoxy, this may make it difficult to fit though, but not impossible.
Once they warp they tend to want to keep re-warping.
The automotive trimmer guys im guessing are the one's you go to if you want to get flames and stuff moulded into the lining??
I think if i were to do it myself it may end up looking alot worse then it did, i was thinking bout doing it myself but am worried that you'll be able to see where i've put the glue if you know what i mean... Will def check out the "how to" on here though.
I need to get a whole new bored cause mine got snapped, so i still have the material just no board which finding one of those in one piece has proven alot harder then i first thought.
Thinking instead of sending it off i may just do it myself and save some money.
It's a pretty straightforward job, esp. for a tradie. Some do the custom designs moulded in but you don't have to get that sophisticated (and those people may prefer to get better rates or more satisfaction from the custom work). Vehicle trim wears out so there are people around to fix it.
You may find one or two located close to where there is a concentration of used car dealers as the dealers like to tidy trim before sale but, like I suggested, YP may be easier.
If you DIY, you will need a (straight) board ^^.
If you buy the proper material i.e. with the foam backing attached, the glue can't be visible although you could leave wrinkles I suppose. Only you can assess your own skills and resources.
Yeah i think my main concern with doing it myself is stuffing it up and then having to take it to someone and getting them to fix my dodgy job... thanks Cheap6, i will give YP a try and see what i can find... Think going that way will save a lot of headaches for me and at least then i know its a proper job and it will look the way its meant to.

dont pay $220!! i did my for like $20theres a great guide on here how to fix it and apart from getting the thing out its quite easy.
As for material i just re-used my old material after a wash, but try clark rubber spotlight or op shops
Thanks Pete, am now considering just doing it myself after looking at the "how to" on here.
I figured if i bodge it up that much then i can take it 2 someone professional, which is prob what will end up happening anyways.
Ill go to spot light and check out what i want.
Now just to find the board to put the material on lol, slowly getting there with this part of the car. Thanks for everyones advice =)

i think u can get a new roof lining off ebay that includes the board and possibly the fitting, but im not sure how much that was, as he is based in vic but heads to nsw from time to time, i found it for my car and its also a wagon but not sure if he has any in stoock or not
u can try pick n payless in blacktown, i know for a sedan they only charge $50 for the board and lining so prob not much more for a wagon. ill be there sometime this week so i can let u know if theres any wagons out there.
Yoshi87, i checked ebay and have been doing so a fair bit lately but haven't found any roof lining specially for a wagon. If you know of a particular guy that does them could you please let me know =) cheers
SWE11L i looked at blacktown wrecks not that long ago and couldn't find one, they gave me a card and said call in a couple weeks cause one may have come in, but still no luck =( Who would've thought it'd be so hard to get another one
