Hi all,
I need some advice from the Guru commodore mechanics out there.
I'm trying to put in new seals in a VS SS V8 1995 Series 1 power steering pump. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get the pulley off.
The pump pulley is a 2 stage type with no flange in the center.
Since there is no flange like some of the modern pulleys, I can't use a flange type pulley removal tool.
I do have a 3 jaw puller but I'm reluctant to go hard with it just in case I buckle and destroy the pulley.
There is what appears to be a hex style hole and threading in the center shaft.
However I'm assuming this is used only for installing the pulley back onto the shaft.
I'm also assuming that the pulley is press fitted on.
How do I remove the pulley without destroying it?
Many Thanks
Hey mate ne.luch with this as im goin threw the same prob
MY VR SS 5L WITH
3.9 LSD DIFF AND MANUAL
it's pressed onto the shaft, not designed to be removed, to put a seal kit through the pump you don't need to remove this from the shaft.
don't have a v8 pump on hand atm but it should be a similar saginaw design as pictured.
clean up the back of the pump, you'll find a small hole there.
use screw driver with the right diameter to fit in the hole, push the circlip out and then remove all the guts of the pump from the back.
you may need to push the back of the pump down to relieve pressure off the circlip to get it out.
Once the back plate is off there should be a small circlip around the shaft, remove this and the shaft and pulley come out in 1 piece.
The 2 retaining rings are what you are looking for in the image of a blown up view.
