    Default Opinions on new engine?

the old vr berlina has just reached 265,000 k's and i've finally had it with the idle, ticking and annoying noises from it so I've been on the look out for a low km engine.

I found this one on ebay which is local and it's a recon which has been stripped, cleaned and re-assembled with new gaskets, bearings and all other crap.

Here's the link for full details: COMMODORE V6 RECON EV6 SII ENGINE **REDUCED MUST GO** (eBay item 300568938780 end time 23-Jun-11 21:36:16 AEST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

I believe this engine was from a S2 VP, I asked him if the engine would suit my trans (Auto 4L60-E) and he says he was not sure as he has never used that kind of trans before but he said the engine was bolted up to a md8 torque converter which I assume was from a turbo 700 tranny.

few quick questions: Will the engine simply bolt up to my trans with no worries? Or will different wiring or ECU be needed?

What's the difference between an 8 bolt and a 6 bolt crank? He mentioned he had a 6 bolt flywheel to suit the crank, is that the correct flywheel I need?

Also something a I noticed: It has no dipstick? Do these unbolt/bolt on? lol

cheers for taking the time to read.

You would be better off getting another VR engine or rebuilding the one in it,I also noticed that he said the engine hasnt been started so how do you know that it will start? And I hope you didnt buy it as it says the bidding has stopped.

I guess thats the chance you take when you buy a second hand/recon engine, but the bloke has good feedback on eBay for his other car parts so should be all good. and no, I have not purchased the engine yet but it is quite tempting.

Can anyone give me an answer to the 2 questions that I asked?

    Cheers

Yes it will fit because the casing is the same, but this motor is best suited to the t700 as your 4l60E is an electronic box,and yes the 6 bolt flexplate is the one needed to fit the 4l60E

And you will need to change the ECU and BCM and the Loom and he has already put the CAS on it,but like I said you should really match the engine with the correct transmission, its better to put new into old rather than old into new.

    UM WTF???
Only VN S1 had 6 bolts vn S2 all the way to VR ran 8 bolt crank for both auto and manuals.
Auto have a flexplate not a flywheel, flywheels are manual only
There would be no need to change your ecu or bcm or wiring harness.
This will suit your gearbox no problems
Main issue is teh Cam phase sensor on the timing cover only vr motors (early buicks that is) had these. So if it doesnt have one youd need to change timing gear and timing cover (or drill hole for it)

I love how two threads with different questions pop up at the same time, and both have the same answer :P not having a go, you could not have put that together, someone asked in a recent thread about earlier engines and the cam sensor, I pinched this link from that thread as it answers the question.

please help!!!95 vr s2 motor change for vn s2 vr has cam sensor... is there a way?

The engine you are looking at wont be a problem, worst case you will have to do as Pub247 has said, the details are in the link.
