hey blokes,
Got a charger going on my 304 shortly so gonna lose the engine fan so i got a AU thermo fan of ebaybeen reading the threads on the forums about the install and i dont quite get the detail on the wiring.. can anyone help me out with this? post a picture / diagram of the thermo fan circuit how it can be done...
The fan already on the front is for the AC right? u cant just simple plug the thermos into that can you?
Also read somewhere that people wire it up to the ECU? can anyone confirm that? and how its done?
i dont really wanna have a switch in the cabbin that i have to manually flick on, so please no one sagest that.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

Mines off the ecu. Just sent my memcal off to greenfoam and had him swithch the output on. And yes there is another plug near the top corner of the radiator(on the battery side) which is for the thermo fan. However do not attempt to run AU thermos off this. You will burn your car to the ground, the wiring is to small. This male part of this plug can be bought at any auto store and simply run it back into the relay box to run another relay (i pulled an old hi beam relay out from a wreckers and installed it). Run a fresh feed from the battery(i put a 30A C/B in line with it as those small fuses kept blowing with the startup inrush) to the relay and run a supply from there to the fans. I just spliced that directly into an old cut off male plug off an au thermo and plugged it in.
But thats realy the least of your worries, i spent all my time getting the friggin things to fit!
Fitting mine was easy on the LS1 (VL V8 radiator, even with auto fittings).. I didn't even pull the radiator out. Just took patience and gentle adjustments with a hacksaw!
I ran one relay per fan, switched on/off from the LS1 PCM as per normal.
Very similar process in the 304. Only thing I did differently to him^ was run each fan to a relay to avoid overdrawing and burning those wires down![]()

Yep - Wire two relays 30 or 40amp each & wire the control side in series / parallel so you have a low and high fan speeds (like the factory AU).
Wire them to be controlled by the factory ecu ! Are you getting a tune done once the supercharger is fitted ?
- Just get them to lower the temperature setpoints in the software - there is options for fan 1 & fan 2 output from the ecu !
It just depends on what ecu and tuning software you are using !
Also there is only 1 wire in the standard wiring loom to suit the engine fan C1 and this is for the A/C fan !
It is also used as a saftey for when the engine temp is above a set temperature
Suggest you get the fan wiring done professionally. Since you haven't given your location in your post it's a little difficult (read impossible) to suggest places you could take your car to get the job done. There are three things you need to consider, first the power wiring for the fans together with associated fuses (for safety), second the trigger wiring to the PCM/ECM with associated relays that allow the fans to be switched on when required, third the Memcal changes that allow the PCM/ECU to trigger the fans at the temperature required.
brings up an interesting point. I should probably fuse mine![]()
