if your wanting to clean the plenum before you polish it the best thing to do is buy some carby cleaner, or degreaser and spray it on and let it soak for a bit then just wipe it, scrape it out or blow it out with a hose or air compressor
but the answer to your question is no it wont damage any thing soaking it in hot water for a while, if its the entire plenum body then make sure you remove the sensors and dry off the plenum after you pull it out of the water. Hope this helps

if it helps, it may be an idea to completely take the plenum off (the whole manifold really) and do it outside the car.
you dont want any gunk falling down the runners into the motor.
its also easy to do it outside the car, not leaning over the engine in an awkwards position.
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that
