Hi all,
I am about to do a 355 kit with a new cam and just wondering will the standard 304 ecu in my manual VR be able to start the engine for run in of the cam.
I now it will need a kalmaker tune done later.
the only other thing I can think of is to get a 215i memcal if possible to see it that will work?.![]()
The stroker shouldnt make any difference to the ecu but the cam might depending on how big you go. Either way just get the mem cal re programed. Someone on here would have the software to do it.
Dont get ripped with buying kalmaker stuff if u dont have to. Theres a few members here that do mail order tunes.
Thsi is greenfoams ebay page --> eBay My World - nicefrog but he hasnt got any up atm, he is def the cheapest. But Delcowizzard on here also does them(pm him). But even mace(forum sponsor) does them also i think, but they would charge a bit extra but i would assume you get a warranty of some description with that also.
But as for question, not sure. If the cam is majorly different to the original then i wouldnt chance it. But if its similarish to a stock cam then you could give it a go. Personally if it were me I would wait as it wont take you long to get a tune and you can be sure of everything then.
Yeah Wagz' is right, in the big scheme of things a tune is the least of your worries.... Go as big as you can afford keeping in mind weather or not your going to add boost one day (as they will use different cams) and send your car in to be tuned or have the ECU sent out to someone with the cam specs ect...

kalmaker way over priced for what it is
I have a terracharger kit that was on the block I am taking out 355. It made 197 rwkw stock engine but the engine at 275k didnt like it much (bottom end bearings).
Does anyone know a good shelf cam the would suit the charger.
The main reason for a cam change is the terracharger produces a crap load of torque upto about 4000 rpm and then flat lines rest.
