I have been to a auto elec and got these errors
Code 76- Short term fuel trim delta high
Code 53- System Voltage to high
Code 35- Idle speed error
Car has done 290k but has been well serviced, Problem
Occasionally at start up will take 10 second to start up, when started like this engine light is on but no noticable problems once started
Most times will start fine
In park on idle sometimes revs Surge just a tiny bit, Revs always surge with foot off the accelerator at around 90-110. Before and after that speed revs seem perfectly steady (not just a gauge problem, Its Noticable with my exhuast system)
Other then that the car seems fine, can anyone tell me whats wrong? (I only ask because the mechanics couldnt work out excactly what it was and said it could cost a few $$$ figuring it out)
Anyone got a solution?
You dont have to go to an auto electrician to check your codes, you can do it yourself quite easily with a paperclip or a small piece of wire.Just follow the instructions in the link below, and if you scroll down near the bottom of the posts in the link, theres some good pics of doing this test also.
---Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)---
Id clear these error codes by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a minute or two, then rechecking the codes to make sure they have cleared and its only giving a code 12.Then if theyve cleared ok,Drive the car at least for an hour or so,and then recheck the codes again to see if any have returned. For any codes that have returned, check the wiring and connectors going to whatever component is setting the code.If the wiring is all good, then replace the sensor or component as these wear out just like any other part.Sometimes codes can set from a "one off" glitch,so its always best to clear them first and then see if they return after a drive..
With your codes 76,53 and 35,these can be caused by any number of things.Old worn out spark plugs or leads or both, these both should be renewed every 12 months as these cars use very high voltages for their ignition systems,so they wear out these parts fairly quick compared to older cars with a coil and points etc. Also bad ignition coils, blocked or dirty injectors, leaking exhaust manifolds, leaking inlet manifolds,a blocked air or petrol filter,or buggered oxygen sensors, any of these could be causing these errors to set.Id start with new plugs and leads if they are more than 1 year old,and then go from there..the oxygen sensors and ignition coils would be next on the list if theres still a problem with errors coming up ,these coils wear out over time and slowly loose their performance as they get old.
You could also try cleaning the throttle body with some throttle body and carby cleaner that you can get in a spray can. When the throttle body is kept clean,it always makes these engines start, run and idle a lot better,so thats worth a go as well.Make sure you clean the small passages in the throttle body like tha IAC valve passages etc..I use a piece of wire with a cloth over it to clean out the passages..
