hey there im sjut wandering if a medium bcm will work in a low bcm car?
i spoke to someone today and they said it is the same but how can i be so sure of that, if i use the medium bcm i can then use cruise control and my electric dash no probs but i jsut wanna make sure it works before i redo my new dash as i had to remove it as some parts jsut wouldnt work on the dash like hte dash lights wouldnt light up, the mileage wouldnt work so i changed the dash around again and put the original in, then the lights didnt light up again so i had to change the wiring around a lil to make the dash lights work
From looking at the wiring diagrams , I dont think you will need a mid level BCM to have cruise control.Ive got factory cruise control on my VS and its only got a low BCM fitted..The mid level and high level BCMs have the cruise control relay built in to the BCM.The low BCM's use a seperate cruise control relay..Also the dash doesnt use the BCM for its configuration.
Low is for bog stock like Brett said.
Mid is for your power windows
Hi is for your level 3 dash and ECC
Lux i have no idea, but they do exist :/
Mid BCM is the same as Low but with power window control.
Brett, Im not sure that the Hi and Lux BCMs have cruise in them.
They have other stuff like, timeout for interior light, headlamp off delay, variable int wiper, speed sensitive power steer, alarm, power window........
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
RX25SE you are right. Mid also has the timeout and head lamp off delay also. Hi does have the wiper speed adjuster, but you need another stalk. Hi has an horn alarm and horn beeps when its locked.
Im sure there is a reason for LUX, but i have no idea.
i have a base vr wagon, i fitted everything for cruise control but it still aint working, it came out of a 94 vr sedan, hope it aint much dif
What have you fitted so far?
the stalk, the module in the engine bay, the brake pedal switch
If the BCM you are using is not a high version, then you will also need to fit the cruise control relay which is located in the fuse box under the steering column. Its just a normal type relay,Also I dont know if the light bulbs will be in the cruise control warning light, and the cruise control ON warning lights on the dash,so you may have to add the bulbs to these two dashlights for them to work.
i know in my dash cruise control light works, it jsut aint registering that cruise control is even attatched, wat sort of relay do i need for the cruise control to work?
Just the normal square type 4 pin relay. If you need one just to try it out,you could borrow the one from the cars horn circuit. The horn relay is located under the bonnet in the fuse box.The relays under there are all marked as to what they are for..just pull it straight out of its holder..
dude, i didnt say this but i have a full box of fuses and relays lol, let alone tail lights and single fuse globes so yh i got plenty of fuses and relays :P
no worries, but wat wiring place do i put it into, i see that there is 2 or 3 lots of plugs that aint doing anything lol
Check out the fuse box diagram sticker on the fuse box cover under the steering column,it shows you where all the relays etc go..
i have the same problem i have 94 wagon with low bcm fitted up all necessary parts but i have nothing on the dash to say there is power to the unit
and obviously no cruise working. Cruise contol relay??? do they have 1?? where is it hiding i have looked everywhere. fuse panel says fuse 11 is for cruise but its already there as it is used for the mirrors. im stumped
me 2 vrw94 i guess we are in the same boat, maybe we need the medium bcm for cruise to work?
I though both the VR and VS cruise control systems were the same, but Ive just been looking at the VR and VS wiring diagrams for the cruise control systems on both models, and the VR and VS have different setups. The VS has the cruise control relay located under the dash in the fuse box near the blinker flasher relay etc,but it doesnt look like the VR used this relay for the cruise control.Sorry about giving you guys the wrong info about this..
The VR wiring diagram shows two different setups depending on the BCM level. The high level BCM models uses the BCM to control the cruise contol. The low series BCM models also use the BCM to control the cruise, but these two setups use different wiring connections etc depending on the BCM level...
The VS wiring diagram also shows two different setups depending on the BCM level. The high level BCM uses the BCM to control the cruise control. The low series BCM models use a seperate cruise control relay located under the dash in the fuse box..
so wat ur sayin brett is that i need to change my bcm to the middle one so i can use cruise control?
By the look of the VR's wiring diagram, the cruise control can be connected with any BCM,low or high, but has different wiring and connection setups, depending on the BCM level. The wiring diagram also talks about a cruise control module where the BCM is.Its all a bit confusing.Ive got a couple of wrecked VR's,Im gonna check out how they are are wired.Ive only got execs though,I really need a high level BCM vehicle to compare against the low series BCM equipped vehicles to find the differences. My oldies have a VR acclaim, and Ive only just fixed broken cruise control wires in the cruise switch in the blinker stalk,(see pic).So I will check out its wiring as well.I will get back to you about what I find out..I know that the VR acclaim my oldies have has a mid level BCM.It doesnt have power windows fitted, even though when I plug in the Tech 1 scantool,it shows up all the power window settings and tests etc in the BCM menus,it also shows the cruise control in the BCM menu..

how do u check the bcm module for cruise control?
What is the part number of the BCM?
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
It looks like the BCMs take the signal from the cruise ON/OFF switch to turn on a relay in the BCM. This relay then supplies the power to the cruise control module and illuminates the CRS lamp.
The other switches on the stalk send inputs to the cruise control module.
All BCMs are fitted with the 'Cruise Control Interface'.
So it looks as if the BCM does play a part in cruise control operation, if only to supply power.

good info guys but still nothing. obviously we need the medium bcm in the vr to run it
