Default VS Ecotec, miss firing, back firing in the engine, surging of power. **Searched**

Give you a run down of whats going on. I have a 97 equipe ecotec. Cruising is fine, no problems, lacking power. Lifters have a ticking noise, they NEED to be replaced as lifer free does not work. Im just waiting for gaskets and to finish my work on the intake and plenum.

The car will surge/miss fire under load in the high RPMS. Today it decided to back fire in the engine. So i thought i might check out what happened, what do you know a nice fresh coast of still smoking oil in the plenum. It also loves to stall going from drive to reverse.

I have checked the coils via a method that was explained in a search. Disconnect leads from one coil and start the arc. All 3 arced between each other, thus meaning their fine cording to this post.

The list of things i have done to the engine and replaced:
    - CAI
    - Fix exhaust leak (replaced exhaust system)
    - Fix radiator leak (replaced radiator fluid and cap)
    - Fix vacuum leaks (Throttle body and canister)
    - Spark plugs
    - Leads
    - Coils
    - K&N air filter
    - Castrol edge oil (repco oil filter)
    - Direct fit oxy sensor
    - Fuel filter
    - Reco power steering pump
    - Gates micro v racing belt, belt tensioner pulley and 2 idler pulleys
    - 12mm Plenum spacer and 12mm manifold insulator
    - New TPS and IAC
    - New fuel pump

I was going to suggest your fuel pump as I had similar issues recently with a fuel pump not supplying enough fuel pressure.
sounds like you might have a faulty fuel prssure regulator, 1st thing to do is diconnect the vacuum line and see if it have any fuel in it as the diapham in them is common to go
If this is all ok try clamping the return line after the regulator and see if the car runs better as this will increase your fuel prssure if the reg is leaking
