Hey everyone, am currently looking for a LSD for my 97 V6 VS sedan, I have found a diff out of a wrecked VS ute and I have it out of the car, the compliance plates on the ute say it has the standard GU4 axle (same as mine) but the diff on the ute has a metal tag on it saying "High Performance use approved lubricant only" and the diff out of my sedan doesnt?
I have the axle out of the ute now and when spinning one of the wheels the other one doesnt turn? Does this mean anything?
Have also taken the backing plate off it but I have no idea how to tell the differance as im pretty new to this.
The diffs ratios are 3:08:1 which I found are standard so tells me nothing
Also pulled some other numbers off the axle which are; 92078979 and S/N005135
If anyone culd tell me if this diff is an LSD or not would be greatly appreciatedor an easy way to tell if it is?
Oh and I know that the axles out of VS utes and wagons dont fit into the sedans but I am just planning on swapping the centres over if it is LSD.
Thanks in advance.
Lsd diffs have LSD on the tag or spin resistant diff which is the v6 version ,High performance diffs are usually open wheeler M80
This might help
How To Tell a M78 & M80 series IRS Diff apart
Ah ok thanks. The ute the dif is out of is a 99 model if that makes a difference?
What is the difference between the M80 diffs and standard? Is it worth taking the centre for my car?
3.08 is usually a M78 and the 3.07 is usually an m80 the internals wont interchange unless you swap the whole diff over and ,it would be a waste of time swapping but if you keep your diff you have now you can get gears and Lsd centers out of fords, valiants and Vl commodores

Thanks for that.
The diff isnt an LSD, but is one of the 'High Performance' single spinner diffs, not worth the hassle for me.
Will try find an LSD.
