Default how to get springs captive

good evening folks. I have a 1994 vr commie on some superlow lovell or tiens I was just wondering how to get these captive, jack the car up and u can pull the springs out and theres a good 1-2inch clearence between the spring and wishbone that sits above it, do i have to get my shocks shortened or is there a way to bypass this. eg get standard springs for a warrent lol. i defenitly like my car low so i want to keep it at this height (the top of the wheel is only sitting flush with the wheel arch. thanks for any help.

I have the lowered springs on my ute and with the standard shocks. Its only an issue when you jack the car too high up... If I were you id just leave it how it is.

Get short shocks just for a bit piece of mind. I had ultra lows and short shocks and I had to jack up the car fairly high before it wouldn't be captive. Far more then you could ever experience driving around.

you can literally pull them out and move them up and down. if i had them shortened to superlow would that make them captive even when jacking up high? #### i hope i dont need to get higher suspension.

Get shortened shocks as it would fail the warrant of fitness inspection.

I have shorter shocks. I have yet to see a pot hole almost a metre high.... The shock won't allow it to go that far.

By the sounds of it you don't even have roads. I come from mackay where the pot holes are every where. Not once have I ever had a spring just fall out.

Pretty much every one of my friends that have a commodore have a set of superlows with standard shocks, including me and we have never had a problem at all.

The only time they fall out of place is when we are doing something that requires the car to be lifted way up into the air. And we just cable tie them into place when we drop the car back down..

If it worries you head out and buy shortened shocks... Simple

Man you should get that fixed

Springs can fall out, if the shocks fall out, maybe cable ties and duct tape weren't strong enough, LOL.

Superlows falling out is a bit far fetched. I've had non IRS springs cut so much that they fitted IRS and they never fell out. To me it seems like it's a urban legend. The key is to make the car that low that If by some miracle the spring falls out that it will hit the bumpstops and your car would drop about a inch.

Regardless of whether they're likely to fall out it's illegal and will void your insurance.

Shortened shocks or higher springs are your two options

Short rear shocks are dirt cheap, just go buy a set it's easier than having to explain to someone one day why the bottom end of your cr was dragging along the ground spreading its petrol everywhere, prehaps an extreme example but think about it.

It annoys me when people toy with saftey items and then only do a half assed job, its like doing brake pads and not greasing the guide pins. Bad_Vn I am not saying you are doing a half assed job as you have done the correct thing in seeking out advice, go to your local auto parts store and ask for short/lowered rear shock absorbers for a live axle VR commodore, when I bought my set it cost me $50 or so.
