Default Power steering not working properly..can anyone help??

hey guys i have a 93 model vr been having a problem with the power steering have asked heaps of people for suggestions but as you all would know the more people you ask the more different answers you get lol. anyways the power steering works fine when you first start the car but as you drive for about half an hour or until the car gets warm the steering becomes quite hard to turn, and does not correct itself if you let go of the steering wheel it just keeps going whichever way you have the wheels facing. however i was told it was the power steering pump so i bought a new pump have installed it but it is still sorta doing the same thing have consulted other people and they say that it is the power steering rack and other people have said to flush it out and bleed the system.
Any suggestions towards this matter as i dont feel like changing the rack if i dont have to as i have just had 2 wheel alignments done cause i put new struts in so yeh can anyone help?? oh and there was a brand new power steering rack put in it about a year ago

IMO, I'd take it to a specialist in this, if its all fairly new .. something is not good, could be lack of pressure.. But since steering is a major thing, id get it checked...should not cost much for a check on it..

the block at bob jane that did my wheel alignment today said that there might be a bit of metal shaving in the valve which only makes the steering hard when it is under full pressure could this be the issue?

Yeah Dobby this could be the reason for it but then it would be best to get it checked properly or if not try a quick flush and see if you get any shavings out of it

Did you notice any shavings at all? The other good thing to do is to see what it's like whilst going to pick up your missus as it might have been due to the fluid being burnt

Bleeding the system takes 2 seconds, so you might as well try it. top the fluid up to the correct level, cold OR hot level depending on if you've driven it or whatever. jack the car up and slowly turn the steering wheel left to right, full lock to full lock about 3 or 4 times and this will bleed it.
