Cigarette lighter won't power devices (i.e gps, phone etc)

Hey guys,

Ive got a statesman VS and im having a problem with my cigarette lighter. Basically, when i push it in it pops back out after a few seconds and heats up to light a ciggie, so there is definitely power coming to it. But when i plug in a device to it, such as a GPS or a mobile phone charger, it won't charge or power them at all! Any ideas?

Clean the contacts inside the lighter unit - they rust and also get dirty. Don't have the ignition on when you do this! Also check that the plug is being pushed fully into the fag lighter.

sandpaper.. would also try turning the plug when the device it in

Maybe try a replacement from the wreckers?
Or wire in a new one from supercheap?
In the 4 commodores I've had the lighter socket has always jacked me around...
