    Default Oils leaks

Been told recently I could be leaking oil from either/all of the following:

rocker covers, valley cover and sump.

I've changed rocker gaskets before, but how hard is it to change valley cover gaskets? Anyone able to show me some pics of where the valley gaskets go?? Nothing with 'valley' in the index of my workshop manual.

Also the sump gasket, hard to do myself?

    Cheers guys.

Valley cover gaskets are the inlet manifold gaskets. To change the sump gasket you would have to take the motor out ,or support the motor and drop the crossmember.Taking the motor out would be the best way, so you can replace the rear main seal and the torque convertor seal(if it is auto) at the same time.

Before you go replacing gaskets, degrease the engine and locate the leak otherwise you may be throwing money away. Rocker covers gaskets are prime items for leaks as is the rear main seal which can be impossible to seal.

Cheers Hako, been wanting to do this but I haven't got around to buying a longer hose to reach my driveway! When the nrma had a look their action plan was to replace all those seals as they couldnt't pinpoint where the leak was coming from. I can tell by looking that at the least its the rear main seal and rocker covers...

Can loss of compression in an engine due to worn out gaskets cause any issues with the transmission?

After changing all my inlet manifold gaskets the transmission doesn't seem to slip as badly as it did before but I do still suspect oil leaks from my sump and rear main seal, and I also believe my transmission is leaking fluid so would that also contribute to it slipping from 2-3?
My brother had the transmission rebuilt while I was living overseas and as much as I believe he gave it a bit while he was driving it, he's not stupid enough to fork out for a new box then absolutely rape it.

Would I be better off changing rear main seal, oil change and new seals etc before going for a reco'd transmission? Is there a seal between the back of the box and the driveshaft?
