Hope someone can help.. I have a vs s2 and i replaced the water pump on the weekend, everything is a ok but my temp gauge is not working now, i've never had a problem with it. what caused this to stop?
Also i noticed my cooling fan (behind radiator) isn't working either (Air con blew up a year or 2 ago) not sure if this was working before i replaced water pump or not but just need to now if this fan must operate at all?
check the two connectors that sit just under the top hose where the thermostat is on the engine. One is for gauge and the other is for the pcm, so it can control thermo/rad fans. Sounds like they were not hooked backup.
thanks mate will let ya know how i go.
I 'think' that if they were disconnected, the temp gauge would read HOT (open circuit) and the fan would also come on with the temp sensor disconnected - also the engine would probably be running rich with no temp input to the PCM. I guess this is a V6 and not a V8? Temp gauges can get sticky although if this has never been noticed before then it would be unlikely.
The fan not working could be due to a number of problems but first I'd ascertain that the fan does work by connecting +12V to it.

If the temp sensor is disconnected then the gauge will stay on cold, if you earth out the wire, the gauge will go up to hot.

assuming its a v6 this might help, After doing any cooling system repair/service it is critical to bleed the air out the system via the bleed screw on top of the thermostat housing outlet. this procedure removes the air that will not be removed even if the engine was brought up thermostat open temperature. if air was to stay in sytem it accumulates around the sensors and will give false readings. cheers
you were right the1 it had come of the front of the thermo. just clipped back on and all working now thanks for the help.
