    Default vs gearstick play

    hey guys i have a vs ute 5sp manual and when i bought it there was a lot of play in the gearstick . anyone have half an idea of what could be wrong?? thanks

    Im guessing you've got a getrag 5 speed box??? This is very common to have quite a bit of sideways slop when in any gear. This is because the linkage bushes are nylon and wear pretty quick once a bit of grit and other foreign material get in there. New bushes will improve this dramatically.

    changing bushes will improve it but not eliminate it as the getrag boxes always had a little bit of play in the shifter, as far as i know the only way to totally eliminate this gear stick play is to get a short shifter, which also shortens the shifts, so if youre after short gear throws and a nice solid shift feel get your self a billet short shifter if not then just replace the linkage bush as cander24 said.

    hahah!! do you know which bushes to change or all of them?? my caousin owns an autopro shop and there are 22 bushes to choose from . does anyone know which bush it is exactly?? thanks

    just replace them all it can't hurt

    i reakon i investment in a short shifter couldn't hurt either, does anyone know how much they are ? i got a VT s-pack with the getrag in it and yea its like driving a western star with a 18speed in it

    Here you go. The attached pic shows the white nylon bush I referred to in my earlier post. This is the bottom of the shifter where the linkage rod from the gearbox connects. Replacing this bush should fix alot of the slop you currently have.
