hey guys i have a vs ute 5sp manual and when i bought it there was a lot of play in the gearstick . anyone have half an idea of what could be wrong?? thanks
is it in neutral...
Need to be more specific to get a good answer,
play, as in where?
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
Im guessing you've got a getrag 5 speed box??? This is very common to have quite a bit of sideways slop when in any gear. This is because the linkage bushes are nylon and wear pretty quick once a bit of grit and other foreign material get in there. New bushes will improve this dramatically.

changing bushes will improve it but not eliminate it as the getrag boxes always had a little bit of play in the shifter, as far as i know the only way to totally eliminate this gear stick play is to get a short shifter, which also shortens the shifts, so if youre after short gear throws and a nice solid shift feel get your self a billet short shifter if not then just replace the linkage bush as cander24 said.
hope this helps
thanks guys really appreciate it
Yep my VT SS is sloppy. Its like throwing a sausage down a hallway.
hahah!! do you know which bushes to change or all of them?? my caousin owns an autopro shop and there are 22 bushes to choose from . does anyone know which bush it is exactly?? thanks
just replace them all it can't hurt
i reakon i investment in a short shifter couldn't hurt either, does anyone know how much they are ? i got a VT s-pack with the getrag in it and yea its like driving a western star with a 18speed in it
