gauge and fans work off different temp sensors. the two pin one with the blue plug is for ECU, fans etc, and the single one with the slide on connector is for the gauge.

have you tried banging on the dash? very common for the solder joints on the voltage regulator in the instrument cluster to become 'broken'.

What happens to the gauge when you unplug the sensor wire, switch on ignition (engine not running) and then ground the sensor wire?

Sticky gauge can be 2 things, 1) the spindle base is dry and needs more than the min volt to make the needle move, 2) the voltage regulator has a cracked solder jont.

The broken trak on the PCB = dead temp gauge - not just sticky.

did you bleed the air out of the cooling system after changing your senders? you might of fixed your problem but because there is air in the system the guage won't register. hope it helps

^^ Would have to be a LOT of air for the sender not to register.
    Would overheat the engine first.

+1 for the cluster. As 88 said. They are pretty cheap on ebay if you just wanna buy a new second hand one and slot it in if moneys not a major issue for you. They are different between Vn/p and vr/s. Make sure you get the right one.

Not a good idea because there's nothing to limit the current flowing through the gauge i.e. you can kill an operating gauge by shorting the sender wire directly to earth.

It is a valid question to ask whether or not the gauge moved to the correct positions when earthed through the resistances I gave you in the other thread. (If it is not obvious, the ignition must be on for the gauge to work.)

Is there 10V between the sender wire and an earth with the ignition on?

That the engine cooling fan also doesn't work is new information. That might suggest that both sender (gauge) and sensor (ECM input) are cold.

Running without the thermostat will just delay engine warm up. The first thing I would do is put it back/replace it.

If you want to switch the fan on as a temporary measure, refer to the "How To" on switchng VN- engine cooling fans or just use the A/C switch. In that thread is also specs. for the coolant temp. sensor (for ECM, blue two pin plug), resistance vs temp.. If the sensor is OK that will allow you to determine the actual temp. of the engine (or at least the sensor).
