hey hey, just wondering if a 3inch exhaust would be too big for a 3.8ltr vs, ive hered of people running them on the ford 4ltr 6's and been getting good power out puts so just wondering if it would be good on a v6???
to big! will sound like poo...try single 2.5...with a muffler and resonator...
they don't sound good
I have driven a few of them 4ltr 6 falcons with the 3inchs they make a lot of noise and sound like shit.
3inch on a V6 commie is way to big has no tone and just drones.
hey man, dont think 3 inch is nessasary, exhaust shops would probably tell you to go a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4inch.
but would sound pretty loud.
I've yet to see a 2 3/4" exhaust for a Commodore.
2 1/2" is too big to be efficient. 3" will make a lot of noise but won't really perform that well.....hmmm....bit like Julia Gillard.
Exhaust guru beat me to it.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
A bloke at work got a twin 3" on his clubby, yet to see or hear but hes not happy with it, apparently it sounds someone strangling a vn, i cant wait to see how they managed to get it to fit.
Go a 2.5'', ive got one on the vk with the 3.8 and sounds nice and doesnt drone and is not overly loud i couldn't be happier.
I can tell you from experience of having a 3" exhaust on a ecotec, even with two big muffler, it droned like a bitch. I had the front passenger seat cushion off and the metal frame would vibrate and rattle when I was driving, it was seriously that bad.

i have twin 2.5'' on my 5 litre vs and it sounds awesome couldnt be happier
i had a ecotec with a single 2.5'' from cat back and i was pretty happy with that also i probably wouldnt go twins may loose power single would be fine
yes i was thinking 2.5inch i was just thinking about going a 3inch because i have picked up a round straight threw supercat muffler thats 3inch inlet and out let so was just gonna go the 3inch for that, what would it be like having that right out the back where the normal stock round muffler is? or should i just get the muff the exhaust shop will give me?
the one up the back is the resinator you could use the 3'' muffler if you really want to just get a 2.5'' into 3'' and than 3'' back into 2.5 did you get the muffler for free?
The 3.8 litre V6 really responds well to a 2-1/4" with just a muffler (no resonator) and the 2-1/2" may still be a little big. Combined with a decent CAI (either air box mod or OTR CAI) and the engine should really come alive and be more responsive.
Or you could always hang a 3" tail pipe after the diff if it's the looks you are after.
Best of luck.
Gonna hijack this quickly to save opening my own topic. I've already got Pacemakers for my 3.8L with a standard exhaust.. Would a 2 1/2 inch be beneficial or is it better to just leave it stock?
Yes if you have extractors already, go get you're self a 2.5"
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
My sister had a 3' system and it sounded like crap, got sh*t ks and lost too much power, personally i would go the 2.5 as it will sound better and perform great compared to the 3.
so it would be ok to still have the 3 icnh muff in the middle? with 2.5 into it and out, yes i got the muffler for free lol
yeah that should be fine mate
sweet will get a quote soon
For the price to get it all made, it will be cheaper to buy a complete 2 1/2" cat back.
i had a 2 3/4inch on my vk, vn and my mate has one on his vt, just cause you havnt seen it doesnt mean you cant get it lol killkenny exhausts adelaide sa
