my vs has no sign of life when i turn the key, including dash lights. I'm lacking in knowledge ( amateur female ) in regards to placing battery on charger in the first instance. Could anyone give me a simple guide to this, i have jump started my car often. Possible alternator ? Any ideas apart from alt on what this problem may be?![]()
no sign of life 0.o ?
It's a fairly easy job, remove the battery (Take off the negative terminal first)
Unscrew and place to the side all of the little plugs in the top if it has them, also top the battery up untill the plates are covered with distilled water.
Connect the red alligator clip from the charger to the positive terminal of the battery, black one to the negative terminal of the battery.
Then plug in and turn on the charger.
when it is charged turn the charger off, unplug it, undo the alligator clips from the terminals, check / top up the water again, screw the caps back into the battery and put the battery back in the car, negative terminal LAST!
I'd say your battery is buggered and needs replacing.....charging it up is like a dog chasing it's tail. If you do not even have dash lights, it suggests a bad battery connection or a completely dead battery that cannot be recharged. If you've had to 'jump-start' your car that also means the battery is bad. Once a battery has gone flat and been recharged a few times it will never be good again. It will let you down at the worst possible moment...and cost dearly then.
Buy a new battery!....they can be had for under $100 or cheaper from a wrecker.
Craka's advice is pretty good - however I just disconnect the negative terminal, then connect the charger to the battery - + to +, - to - . This way you don't have to remove the battery.
But that really doesn't matter....you need a new battery.
ps...no need to mention you are an 'amateur female' in my opinion as most females are equal if not superior in mechanical knowledge nowdays. I have 4 daughters....,11 grand-daughters - they all have my respect.

Agree with Hako re needing to replacing your battery. However, once you replace the battery you need to make sure that your alternator is charging the new battery properly otherwise you will soon be in the same position you are now. Did the battery light on your dashboard come on at all before your battery failed completely?
