hi all ..
this is my problem..after a 1200km trip my vr got low on transmission fluid but didnt know till the next day when i went to drive it and wouldnt even reverse..so filled the fluid up and was ok but smoke was coming out from the engine somewhere..looks like its coming from under the exhaust manifold..i took it for a drive and thick white smoke came out the exhaust for about 1km then stopped..
could the smoke coming from under the manifolds have something to do with the fact that it was obviously low on transmission fluid..or any other ideas...thanks
Maybe you blew a line? Check for leaks, also check your level again. If it is the tranny lines, fix it quick smart, i know of 2 VS that have burnt out due to transmission oil igniting of the exhaust manifolds.
Firstly we need to find out where its comming from.
have you noticed when its parked that its leaving a puddle or drips of oil? throw some cardboard under the front, take note of the area where its dripping and have a look under the car for wet patches.
i had a leak from one of my metal trans lines which ran to the cooler. it had been rubbing on the exhaust pipe and wore into the metal which was dripping onto the exhaust and smoking. its a prick of a job to replace those lines as it hugs the motor from the auto to the front of the engine, i replaced it with rubber lines.
