hi ppl im kinda stuck at a cross road i own a vr acclaim v6 an 5 speed otr cai otherwise stock but i want more power(dont we all) now i could ether play with the buick an l67 convertion or a 5l convertion i have ideas 4 all 3 my ideas r;
The n/a buick; stroker bottem end ported an polished heads lumpy cam an a modifyed highrise twin throttle intake manifold
Mayb a bit of happy gas. This is only cause its something different an something every1 hasnt done b4 an the twin air cleaners out the bonnet just looks fat lol
The boosted buick; t35/40 turbo or raptor s/c fmic mayb a little head work an cam
The s/c ecotec; Mayb a little head work an cam an up the boost
The 5l; nothin 2 much cam an a high rise manifold an twin system exaust
there the basic ideas i have im not after dyno winning figures ill just b happy if i can beat a stock ls1 so round the 200kw like most ppl my pockets aint loaded with cash so most of the work will b done with beer an my own 2 hands so wats the best bang 4 buck
Cheers aj

L67 for 3 grand odd with loom ecu etc. Drop in throw a 10 psi pulley on it and full exhaust. Enjoy.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
house doesn't look pimp while your chucking mainies though
Stock 5ltr with side or mid mount supercharger. Nothing flash, but will haul well. Only thing is doing this cheaply you will not get power all the way to 5500rpm but it will have its fair share through the rev ranges.
Couple of bottles of octane boost?
What it comes down to is. What do you want. What do you want to do with it.
IE: Everyone tells me to drop a V8 in mine rather then working my V6. But how many people do you know that has a fully worked N/A ecotec?
So once you figure what you want and what you want it for, you can explore your options and go from there.
As far as i know, theres no real bang for your buck. Yes parts are cheaper for a LS1 then an ecotec, but thats all due to supply and demand.
Hope this helps.
Hi AJ. Your in the same position as we were about 4 years ago.. My Son David and I started a Project with a VR Berlina, we did the Suspension, Paint, Boot install and we were left with engine bay..
Like you we were in the same mind about what to do under the bonnet.
We though about the pros and cons of Turbo charging the old Buick, Building an fitting 355 stroker, Or going with the L67.
At the end of the day we were looking for a car that retained all of its street drivable and fuel economy, so we could afford to still drive it.
Finding parts to build the Buick strong enough to do a turbo build and stay together was going to be a big ask, And spending shit loads of cash on a 355 stroker and loosing the good fuel economy seemed foolish.
So we ended up going for an L67 Supercharged Six, Even when highly modified seemed to return very good fuel economy when driving around normally and cursing.
The main thing that impressed us with the L67 Build was the abundance of torque the little engine with the modded M90 Blower was able to deliver from the basement.
Even though the the KW in the high end were lower than some of the high end V8 builds the torque was far stronger and thats the thing that gives you the brutal acceleration over the V8 builds..
So dollar for dollar the L67 will give you far more power across the rev range than any V8 build of similar cost and still 8.5 liters per 100 on a trip, which to me make the L67 the smarter choice.

Nice.
Needs more done though.
Nicer radiator cap, stainless power steering, brake and coolant reservoirs, more braid, alloy pulleys, alternator relocation, less red, delete bonnet soundproofing, coil overs, delete gay s/charger & fit not-gay pair of gt35r's.

I love turbos as much as the next guy but sometimes i wonder whether some people ever look at the revs where all the power and torque is atOne gt35r would be a DECENT setup on a commodore.

thanks mate u pretty much summed up everything i am looking at the car is going 2 b a daily so fuel is an issue i live in an area where there r some bogans runnin round in the ss's with an exhaust an think there untouchable so having enough poke 2 give them a scare is all i want couple questions tho wat did u modify on the blower an wat dramas did u come across installing it? Like i said it is a daily so the less time its off the road the betta...... I really dont like driving the camry lol cheers

Hi AJ I probably should of mentioned that that particular car has a fairly reasonable shopping list attached not just blower mods.
The only real trick bits were having the Security code modded on the VS memcal so the VR BCM could talk to it..
And fitting K frame spacers to lower the engine cradle to fit it all under the bonnet.
The rest is pretty straight forward..
The car makes 257 Rwkw and 8000 newtons of torque at the tyres and is still only a mild build with 16 PSi of boost..
But more than enough power to be gone before Mr Rice Crispy with his twin turbo commodore can stutter the word Spoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
