These cars have an emergency immobiliser bypass or override so you can drive the car somewhere to get the key fixed, all you have to do is turn the ignition key to the on position,so the reds are lit up on the dash, and leave it on for 45 minutes, after the delay period has passed, the flashing red immobiser light on the console/dash near the radio there somewhere, will stop flashing. This means the car is ready to start.Just keep in mind that if you turn the car off again, you will have to wait another 45 minutes for the bypass time again before it willl start again. Also some very early VR's dont use the timed override to bypass the immobiliser, these had an override key switch in the left hand fromt door jamb, like the VP had.

dont know bout the vr but a few weeks ago my vs's key wouldnt work (it does it intermitently) so i just opened the door (window down) and the alarm went off and i couldnt turn it off so i popped the hood and ripped the horn fuse out and when the alarm cycle stopped i put the key in and it started!? I'm due for a new key and my spare is also rooted. They are about $50 for a genuine with the lions head or around $60 for an HSV one off eBay.

You need a working key to get another copy. If the key does not work then they cant copy the Key.

If you have no working key,you may have to see a holden dealer who can use your cars VIN to access your cars unique security code .They can then use this security code to program a new key via a scantool plugged into your car..Also, if the bypass time isnt working,it may be the BCM (Body Control Module) thats faulty.Id also check to see that theres not a keylock in the passenger side front door jamb, its located just near the door hinges,if there is,then this keyswitch needs to be switched off, which will disable the immobiliser.

if the car is unlocked put the key in the ignition and turn it to accessories then press the unlock button 3-5 times, then take it out and it should lock the car remotely, this happens to my vs regularly and that always works for me

If you have a working key it's cheap to get another one. I've had mine copied by the key shops in the mall. They plug the working key in, pull off the code and program you up a new one, even wrote down the code so I can get one made without a working key. I did this because my vs would intermittently not turn over, battery was dying and it wasn't taking off the imobiliser.

Try leaving the key on for 45min, can't hurt.

You'd be thankful for the imobiliser if someone was trying to steal it. though it seems strange to me that it's turning over. Factory immobilizers usually kill the starter. Aftermarket ones are more likely to kill ignition or fuel supply.

Not 100 percent sure if it is factory i was only presuming that because of the lion head on my key when it was going and i didnt turn it off it would do the same it has kill switch and fuel cut but they are after market so no chance i can take a non working key to get copied?

Mate all cars have problems it does not matter what make the car is.
If you know what your doing and can diagnose the problem it can be easily fixed.
Did you check for fault codes bridge pins 5&6 and see what it brings up.
Also you state that it cranks over check if its got spark and fuel supply.

i hate english im bad at it lol.

na was on cell phone. okay i got my key from mister minit he told me how to program it (unlock car manually wait until alarm goes off manually and reboots itself and put key in and start leave going for 60 secs).

what i did was - put all plugs back in i had taken out, they were removed because we tried to bypass the immobliser we didnt know about the key or the 45min wait period, i opened the door manually and at this stage the alarm was off (nothing set it off) so i tried opening the doors unplugging the alarm box and putting back together but nothing seemed to have set it off (i presumed the last time it was used the alarm was turned off by my old key) so i sat in the car locked all the doors (which is wat i was told to do) and turned key. the car turned over but nothing, so i repeated the process and wallah! the car started.

now the hard part is now. when i open the door. the alarm comes ON when i lock the door. the alarm goes OFF. i know this because when i unlock the door jump in car and start the car the alarm comes on (from when the key turns the dash board lights up) and the weird thing is the car will start while the car is running then will stop about 5 minutes after this and wont let you start again.

you have to unlock the door with the button on the key (alarm will be turned on) jump in the car shut the doors and press the button on the key again (alarm will turn off) then you can start it and away you go. does anyone know of this issue ?

I paid $20 at a locksmiths to get mine programmed. Up to you I guess.
When I unlock my car if I don't start it within at least, I don't know, 30 seconds say, the immobiliser turns back on and I have to press the unlock button again to start the car. I always assumed this was standard? But I don't know if that's what you mean, I'm a little confused to be honest.

You shouldnt have to press your button to disarm the immobiliser once your key is in the ignition switch and is turned to the on position, thats why the key reader is there,so the car knows its the right key for that car,but as you have said ,it also disarms the immobiliser when the buttons are first pressed on the remote..Id check the contact ring around the ignition switch and also check the contacts on the key itself.Theres 2 contacts, the obvious one with the metal knob that touches the ring, and theres a second contact that touches the actual metal part of the ignition key,its a little metal tab and if its bent and not touching the key properly, the immobiliser wont disarm.

I think I may have an issue with the key/immobiliser but the key does make contact cause I have checked that in the past. Is it normal for example if I'm at the servo and I leave my car unlocked and go in to pay, by the time I come out, the engine will be cut off and the light is flashing on my dash, I have to press the unlock button or lock then unlock for the car to start? Should the car's immobiliser only engage when you press lock?
I thought it was a standard feature of the system to engage something like 30 sec - 1 min after turning the car off and taking the key out??
