Default Do I Have to Worry About Timing When Replacing VS Heads???

(Following the Gregory's manual) I've successfully removed the heads from my 3.8ltr Ecotec, I've got a gasket/bolt kit, had the heads checked out, and am ready to put it back together this weekend (I've never done a head gasket replacement before, but it all looks pretty straight forward).

Some of the guys at work are saying I need to check the timing as part of the process, reading the manual it pretty much says replace gaskets, etc, bolt it all back together, and fire it up (I've kept the pushrods in the order they were removed which looked to be about the only thing the manual really cared about in terms of 'beware of this').

Do I need to worry about the timing at all??? These guys are all 'expert', but none have ever worked on a Commodore before....

I would check it just to be safe. Turn engine over with a ratchet on the crank pulley and make sure there's no interference

In a word, no. Nothing that you will be removing to rebuild the top end of a vs v6 is 'timed'.
Just follow your manual for the procedure order and you'll be fine.
    Cheers.
