    Lightbulb 304efi front main seal leak

    hey all i was curious if i had a front main leak what method and tooling is involved in the replacement or repair of it on a 304efi v8? i have been told its a crank out job but i seriously doubt it is thanks in advanced

    You are right; the crank doesn't have to come out. You will need to remove the fan shroud, the belts, pulleys and balancer.

    The seal will come out if you collapse it in from one point with a chisel or scraper, then the new seal can be tapped in. It may make it easier to use something like an old bearing race or thick pipe between a hammer and the seal to knock the seal in square.

    Apply some clean oil, as per normal, on the seal lip. You might also want to check the rubbing surface on the balancer for wear.

    sounds abit more like it i was told crank out and repair from inside out it didnt sound right hmm thanks man
