Hey all, just joined to finally ask a few questions I can't seem to find answers to.
I'm picking up a 94 VR Executive in about a week (), it's the v6 auto model.
It's got extractors, custom exhaust system, and I think it's been lowered; but the previous owned put this horrible fake hood scoop on it. I'm paying $2200 outright for it, is this a good deal? I need to replace the drive belt, the A/C is iffy, and the paint is dodgey as hell (although a friend of mine says this is to be expected in a car as mass produced as it was). I also would like to know if it has been lowered, however neither the dealer or myself know the original ride height to measure. I THINK the suspension is non-standard, so I would assume it has; would just like to know for sure. Also, I'm looking at pouring a bit more money into it; other than paint job/mags, are their any other cosmetic or non-cosmetic mods I could do to it for fairly cheap to increase performance? Hopefully someone out there can help me out. Thanks in advance.![]()
The car should be "roughly" 144cm's from ground to the top of the roof and have about 14cm's of ground clearance.. If you measure from the ground to the jacking points on the car, that's probably the easiest of telling if it's been lowered and, if so, by how much. The drive belts are easy to replace and cost about 80 bucks..
One thing you didn't mention though is how many KM's it's got on the clock and if it comes with a service history.. Unless the motor and gearbox are in decent condition, I wouldn't be paying that much for it.. Especially not with having to respray it (Either yourself or done in a shop).
As for the performance, there is a sticky for that in the top of this forum. Or just click here.
it has 300k on the clock, however it has a brand new transmission and a full service history. Sorry, slipped my mind :3
Depending on your area but IMO 2200 buys a nice looking VR VS auto with less Kilometres.
Check things like suspension shock condition and ESPECIALLY the bushes in the front lower arm and Z bar, also check for rust in the spare wheel well and boot as this indicates a bad leak thru the rear 1/4 windows.
Also it will probably need ball joints/tie rods, maybe a rack and engine/gearbox mounts if these things have not been done in the past.
Thanks for the help guys, will have the suspension checked but giving it's been replaced in the past year or so I would think it should be okay. As for rust, I've checked it inside and out and I can't find any. Considering respraying the car, but I may leave the cosmetic things for last. Another thing is, are 215/85 tyres expensive, like, when it comes time, (it has near brand new tyres on it atm), would I be better of buying new mags with cheaper tyres or just coughing up to get new tyres put on the pursuitys?
just buy 205/65/15, standard fit and cheap.
Thanks heaps for the help all![]()
