Hi all,
the fuel pump went on my vs 5.0l commodore. i bought a new aftermarket one from repco over the weekend as i couldnt wait to take it to a mechanics this week and thought i could do it myself. how wrong could i be!
i took out the old one which came out easy enough and put the new one in which took forever, as i couldnt get the angle right. the part with the float and the sensor i think has come off inside the tank, but i didnt think anything of it. i kept going and it seemed to fit right. started first go, put fuel in, drove it for a bit and the fuel light stayed on, it is now running really rough, no power whatsoever and the noises the motor was making was all kinds of wrong. (there is nothing wrong with motor or otherwise) i have obviously stuffed something up with the fuel pump quite epically!
i went to the mechanics today to ask how much they would charge to have a look and fix the problem and he couldnt tell me, so i dont want to take it to them and then get charged $300+ seeing as i tried to save some cash by doing it myself. could someone suggest why it is doing what is doing, what i did wrong besides the part falling off and how i go about fixing it. any suggestions would be much appreciated.
cheers.
My guess is maybe you ####ed your fuel sender gauge one way or another for your fuel light. I stuffed mine, thanks to the kids fiddling with it whilst i was elsewhere. My fuel light does not come on. My gauge stops at an 1/8 but reads anything higher. I havnt lost power (i dont think) and my engine is making noises already.
Id remove it again and check to see if anythings damaged etc,if it all looks ok,then try reinstalling it again, just take your time,if you still have trouble and cant get it installed right, then there might be someone on here who can come by your place and give you a quick hand to install it.
Remove and check it looks like ur old one. There is a notch in the hole, u turn ur sender unit so the float arm sits in the notch the. U can remove it and install the same way.
Take pics and post them up so we can help diagnose it for u.
thanks guys, will have another go tomorrow arvo after work..... fingers crossed i have some luck this time, if i still cant get it i will post pics. cheers again.
