I was driving along today and as I hit an 80 zone (Up from 60), I began to slowly (And I mean slowly.. There was a truck infront of me) accelerate to bring the old girl up to speed. Everything was fine until I hit 75- then my pressing on the accelerator were greeted with slight rev rises (About 200 or so) then nothing. The revs would cut back and my tail shaft would clang (Probably just the centre bearing.. I know it needs replacing, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet).
Thinking maybe the TCC had engaged early, I dropped it into "third". It down shifted straight away but continued it's tantrum. After about 20 seconds, I pulled over with my car stalling in the process. Put the car in park and fired her up.. With no more issues since then.
No CEL was cited before the engine died. I've done a code check and I get the usual "12". Any ideas?
Also.. Random question that's kind of related: I know manually shifting the auto's kills them.. But I have been given two different opinions from Auto technicians.. One says to just drive around in "Full Auto / D" and another says that it could make the box play up in the long run with the constant shifting if you're dropping a few KM/h here and there in traffic and I'm better off leaving it in third until 80, then putting it in Drive... Any truth to either of these? Just wanna take care of the box the best I can after it's just been serviced/parts replaced.
Just bumping this back to the top.. It probably wont get me anywhere but it happened again today - almost resulting in getting myself rear ended by a semi along the F3.... And several times in Sydney itself which was a piss off.
