Default vr v6 engine light code 68

ok have a vr v6 engine light came on after i got to 100kmh and always does it seems like its slipping in first to 2nd. but other wise fine i have just recently changed trans with the batt. disconnected for 2 days which should of cleared all faults. but still comes on as soon as i get to 100kmh. im starting to think it may be pcm.

Might of replaced it with a bad trans...

Are all the plugs for the trans clean and securely connected? Is there enough fluid in there? When you get to 100km/h can you see the revs fluctuate like the trans is actually slipping?

Was it doing it before you changed the trans? You could have fitted a dodgy trans.

Hmmm. My manual doesn't show DTC 68 for a V6, which is a bit strange. However, here is the V8 info:

DTC 68 V8 PCM - TRANSMISSION COMPONENT SLIPPING
    Circuit Description:
Diagnostic Trouble Code 68 is used to determine that a component in the transmission is slipping. The PCM monitors the difference of engine RPM and output shaft RPM, with the transmission in 4th gear and TCC engaged. When the TCC is engaged the engine and transmission should be coupled together nearly 100%. Diagnostic Trouble Code 68 will set when the slip is greater than ÷200 RPM, meaning that something is slipping either 2-4 band, 3-4 clutch, torque converter clutch, or forward clutch.

    DTC 68 will set if:
    . Throttle position 0%-50%.
    . TFT between 20 degrees C - 115 degrees C.
    . TCC is enabled.
. 3rd or 4th gear is selected or indicated.
. Trans slip speed is greater than 200 RPM for 10 seconds.

It's you're Memcal, I just spent 4 months chasing this problem. You need to get you're code 68 disabled in you're memcal and everything will be sweet as with no problems.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!

the code 68 sensitivity was a problem in only v6's

These memcal revisions would be affected

Should a problem with slipping gears always log an error code?
If so would it show up when you bridge pins 5&6 or would it show up using another diagnostic method? ( ie when I bridge the pins it doesn't tell me there is an SRS error even though my airbag light stays on)
My trans slips quite badly so I'm just wondering if I should go ahead with putting in a reco transmission or if its something else that is the problem...

Sorry for hijacking your thread dinnzyvrv8!

If the slip RPM goes past the MALF trigger limits set in the memcal then it will log a code. Some codes only trigger a fault log and not enable the fault light, this condition is also set in the memcal, SRS runs on a different computer, you need a scantool to access and read/clear codes from the SRS computer, have you verified your oil in your transmission is clean and filled to the corrrect level? Level needs to be checked when the car is upto normal operating temperature.

I can't remember the slip RPM trigger on the earlier memcals as opposed to the later ones i will have to look that up.

I think the slip RPM is about 150rpm.

just had a look it was 200rpm slip, there's also other conditions like the slip must occur in a TPS range and also trans temp range early memcals it was 0-50% TPS & 20-115c trans temp, later was 0-37% TPS and 50-99 DegC, but in the end they just disabled the fault code all together.

sorry guys been a while since posted not had a comp. for a while but since not having the comp. i have fixed my problem i disconnected my bat. then went to pinch a part lol and got a second hand PCM stopped the trans from slipping in first to second and stopped the engine light from coming on. so after all the second hand trans is all ok so now im in the process of fixing the trans that came out some of the clutches are gone and on piston is cracked so got to get a rebuild kit and rebuild another one i just recently rebuilt one on my vrv8. DONT be sorry for hi jacking mate all good yes they will give you error codes it could be soloniods or a piston or clutches like i have discovered when i stripped this one good luck
