Default vs starts stalls blows engine fuse

    hi all

    vs s2 man 6 cylinder

Problem: engine starts then dies. Sometimes blows engine fuse. When i give it a few revs the engine will run but stutters a bit but continues to run. Without revs engine stutters and dies. I have put in new cas and changed dfi mod and problem continues to occur. So something is blowing the engine fuse, and when the fuse doesn't blow the engine runs for a little bit then sputters and dies rendering the poor girl undriveable. Could be a number of things just Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what might be causing this problem.

Thanks for any help or ideas

Had a similar issue in a VK where there was a loose wire near the carby that was shorting out each time I turned left. Have a look around the engine bay and see if anything is not seated. It's a starting point.

+1 on a loose wire. Mine was doing this while I was living overseas and my brother was driving it. He ended up buying his own car cause the engine fuse kept blowing at random times. I fixed it when I came home, ended up being a loose speaker wire at the headunit touching the chassis. Never happened again!

depends which fuse is blowing............ the Main engine fuse in fuse box (ecm control fuse)
or Main engine harness fuse like 90amper for starter etc......it sounds like the starter main fuse is the one your blowing not the small 20-30amp engine fuse

if you start it and it will run if press accelerator and stalls straight away and the big amp fuse keeps blowing i would check the starter isnt siezing on stopping the motor from turning freely.......

a other cause of this is the relay for the starter being burnt out and sticking on swap relay for staarter with another one with same number of pins from fuse box...

also being a manual check there is no difference with clutch pushed in all the way like a siezed clutch component....

if thats all okay and that fuse keeps blowing THEN likely short of voltage to earth on that circuit
i would look for a short on the wiring harness in the engine bay area and where it goes through the firewall first
and under where the fuses is (under the fuse box in those wires )for black burnt wires...

    good luck

Check the cable at the rear of the alternator - the fat one under the nut - this cable can fracture internally causing an intermittent connection which then creates voltage surges which will blow fuses. In some cases this cable breaks off completely and shorts....again causing voltage surges/spikes.

yeah hako nice memory or you have been burnt before i take it? old tech loine says the harness get excessive resistance and broken strands of wire's inside the altenator posotive cable causing intermittent voltage spikes across most of the engine sensors due to reference voltage for those sensors spiking.... check it too i say~!

Memory and been burnt before! Also I worked operational with electronics - radar - elctrolysers - comms equipment etc for 50 years and have seen plenty of sparks in the wrong places.

    Wink up-date 2

after reading some more posts and hearing the oil pressure switch could be the cause i disconnected it, kicked her over and managed to get a lap around the block without blowing a fuse or any other troubles, which is the furthest it's gone since problems started occuring. Will get new sensor tomorrow and hopefuly thats it.
