Hey guys, my vr v6 buick has started ticking constantly and pretty loud too... Just wondering if it could be the rockers or lifters being ####ed and what i can do about it

Could be a bad lifter - usual cure is an oil change especially if one hasn't been done for some time. A can of "lifter free" may also help. If neither helps, it's not impossible to locate the noisy lifter and clean or replace it.

It could be something else totally unrelated like the harmonic balancer starting to fail, or one of the pulley bearings failing etc........but usually a ticking noise will be a lifter that is not doing it's job.
Check what it sounds like by finding 'noisy lifters' on YouTube....it will give you an idea. If totally different to what you find there, report back.

Is it loud when listening next to the engine bay with the hood up, or from inside the car? If its the former, it may be injectors, as they do tend to tick loudly when they get old. My VR has that noise.

If you want to see if it is the injects, with the motor running, grab a long screw driver, put the tip to the injector, then put your ear to the handle. You should hear really loud ticking if it is the case. Give it a go on all 6 injectors.

changing the oil on a ticking motor wont do squat, you are likely to have either a stuffed oil pump, blocked pickup, sticky lifters,or another possibility is a bent pushrod any of these will cause loud ticking.

Try checking that there isn't a crack in your exhaust manifold.
