Hey ppl,
I got a full rebuild on my VR V8 transmission with a stage 2 shift kit. I dont drive the car hard at all and Im not a hoon either. Its only been rebuilt about a week and Ive been driving it like a nana but tonite I went to overtake another vehicle and I put my foot down for the first time and it dropped down a gear (I was doing about 60km) and it revved right out and was revving out for a bit till it decided it would go into gear. It was a bit weird and then when I did it again at about 80kms it dropped down and changed beautifully. So is it slipping or any thoughts? should i take it back for them to check out? any help would be great coz I did pay around 2gz to get it fixed and Im really not happy if its already starting to slip!

It shouldn't matter if the cars a little cold or anything ? Or can it? And the other thing is sometimes it shifts pretty hard and sometimes u can hardly feel it. Is this normal too ?
Its not low on oil is it ?
The shift kit will make the gear changes a bit hard - that's what they are designed to do and if they didn't make the changes harder then you would have wasted your money! The delayed upshift could be due to many reasons such as under/over filled transmission fluid, bad throttle position sensor etc.
Your only option is to take it back to the repairers and explain what happened - they will then explain to you what they think the problem is and then offer a fix. It will have a guarantee probably for 12 months so there should be no dramas.
Good Luck.

Thanks hako I'll take it tomorrow and explain the situation to him and see how we go
UPDATE:
Took the car back and of course with my luck it was running like a charm when we took it for a test. He said it seems like could be a sticking valve as the oil and everything seen very good. He said the sticking valve is common and also on some gen IIIs too. He said see how it goes as sometimes they just need a little to loosen up but if it doesn't within a week he is going to pull it out and look over things again. But as soon as I turned the first corner out of their to leave it started straight away but hasn't since then. I'll see how I go this week. Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions!
Muss
Sounds like he is an honest repairer who looks after his customers - glad to hear.

Did it set a fault code?
Slipping should set a code.
Yeah he is an honest bloke and he is a great help. No I haven't checked for codes as yet I'll do it tomorrow night. I'll post it up and see what codes I do get up!

they had slip codes in early vr's but they disabled them later cause they were to sensitive, so now most tunes just rely on the trans fluid getting over temp to log a code. So the only way to see trans slip properly is with a scantool or laptop
when i rebuilt my own i changed all solinoids and loom costs a bit more but worth it so now i have a new hobby lol any 1 wont 1 rebuilt lol![]()
