Hey, new member to this site, just bought a VS sedan, just standard 3.8l auto, looking for a bit of cheap noise, and have been told that you can cut a section out of exhaust containing a muffler and just put a bit of pipe in, im in new zealand and laws a different i belive but does this sound possible?>
Dont even bother mate. Your're better off saving up for a 2.5inch cat back system than cut any part off the exhaust. You'll also attract cop attention if its too loud by cutting it
...fail...

I need some statesman/ calais woodgrain for drivers side panel!!
Knucklehead thing to do.
If its the CAT you are talking about its a stupid thing to do.
I ran a straight pipe on my VS for a while was a nice sound at idle but way too much drone when driving.
Went for a single walker muffler from the cat back and now sounds sweet
I thought they didn't use cats in NZ?

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
You replace the back muffler with a straight 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch pipe. I did it to my vr v6, and loved it.
Why's everyone hating on it...I thought it was a fairly common thing to do. Its not that loud, gave my car a bit of a throatier note at idle and low revs, and it ended up with a bit of a whistle at high revvs, i thought it was awesome back in the day....When i was young and driving a v6 commo... I mean its still a 6 but it was a reeeaally cheap and easy way to get a bit more enjoyment outta my car.
