    Default No spark??

Hi all, i tried to change my crank angle sensor the other day, but couldnt get the harmonic balancer/crank pulley off, i tried a couple of different levers and pullers to get the bugger off but no joy. So i put the belt back on and went to pull out of the shed, but the ute wouldnt start. It turns over but doesnt even try and fire. I took a plug out to check for a spark and there was no spark, all from trying to take the pulley off...doesnt make sense to me. if anyone can shed some light on what may have done this and what some solutions are it would be very appriciated.

    For reference, it is a 97 3.8 V6.

    Thanks

You may have bent the fingers on the harmonic balancer that the CAS gets it's signal from. No signal, no spark.

You may have broken or un plugged the CAS or the wiring when you had a lever behind there.

The CAS may just be totally stuffed now.

thats a possibility, but if there was no sensor would it not fire whatsoever? i thought that but just assumed that it would spark at the incorrect time insead of not at all.

The DFI module uses the signals from the CAS to trigger the ignition coils, so it wont fire at all if it doesnt get a reference signal from the CAS.I also reckon that the CAS or its wiring may have been damaged if it just stopped running all of a suddden after you tried to lever the balancer off. .The proper way to remove these harmonic balancers is to use the proper harmonic balancer puller, which is the 3 bolt type balancer puller. You also need three 1/4 UNF bolts, this thread size will screw into the slots around the front of the balancer so the puller can be attached.I bought my balancer puller from supercheap,it came with some bolts, but none would fit the commodore balancer,so I just went to a local hardware store and got the 3 proper size bolts.
If you use the wrong type of puller( like the 3 leg type puller) on these balancers, it can damage the balancer and can cause the metal and vulcanised rubber parts of the balancer to seperate, which leaves the balancer unusable, and these balancers are not cheap to replace either,so unless you are actually replacing the balancer after its removed, its best to use the proper type puller in the first place..
