Hey all, yet again nothing comes close in search so here I am. So just recently I got this squeaking/chirping noise sort of like a cricket doing its little repeated chirp noise if I had to describe it (don't hold me to that) coming from the clutch/bell housing/back of engine. Now its only just popped up and goes away as soon as I put the clutch in, and may or may not come back when I release it but will usually go away for a while but comes and gos as it pleases, whether hot or cold. Any one have any ideas on what could be causing it?
Cheers
Sorry should have mentioned its a T5
I would assume its your throw out bearing.
Kudos to the descriptive language. I had something like this happen, except it was more like a grinding. It was actually my throw out bearing had slipped off the fork. So you push the clutch in and the fork still collects the bearing and pushes it up against the pressure plate, so no noise. But when you take your foot off the clutch the bearing doesn't stay in the fork and go backwards so it just spins on the shaft and sometimes touches up against the pressure plate and makes noise.
Throw it in first accelerate up to like 4000rpm or something then take your foot off the accelerator leave your foot off the clutch let the motor slow the car down... Mechanic did that in my car and it made a godawful racket, like the same sound just worse.
Cheers mate after a bit of googling to reinforce it, it would seem so. Will I be able to get away with leaving it for maybe 3 months max if its only making noise intermittently?
I'll take it for a fang tomorrow and see if it will do it as well.

Depends if you're gonna replace the pressure plate i guess. Mine happened after i replaced the clutch and pressure plate and had the flywheel machined, and i also put in a new clutch cable...For some reason though the cable sort of had some slack in it, as in it wasn't pulling on the fork when not in use which i think let the thrust bearing go wandering... Im not 100% it was a while ago but i put some shims in the cable down by the gearbox just to change the point where the clutch grabs in the pedal, and i think that pulled the thrust bearing in so it couldn't fall off the fork too.
When it comes down to it, getting the gearbox out might be a pain in the ass but its not _THAT_ hard. If your problem is the same as mine i think the noise might make you want to fix it Mine sounded horrible.
Yeah cheers, its pretty annoying in the way that it makes the car sound like a clappa, but if all goes to plan I'll have the engine out in about 3 months to slap a 355 in but if it gets on my nerves too much I'll see whether I can adjust the cable, I think the grab point is very far towards the back (pressed in) so it should have plenty of adjustment, thats if it gets to that point.
Was the previous owner female???
Nah but it was possibly given a very hard time, not 100% on that but.
Edit: Just realized clutch is more on the shallow side (away from fire wall) and if I have my foot against the pedal as in just touching it stops the noise so it must just be stretching with age.
