Default Twin Throttle Bodies Set up

    *ECOTEC*
Hello, i have purchased a Twin throttle body. It has another Throttle body just oppisite the standard one, I was wondering what is the best set up without moving the alternator? I have looked at buying a VN Group A bonnet scoop to give me some more room to play with, but was wondering if there was a Nice and neat way to do so without buying the small scoop?

Thanks a ton in advice, and if anyone has any pictures of a set up like this i would appreciate it heaps!

ttb are a waste of money unless you have a high rev 5+ litre. Totally counter productive on a V6 no-matter how wild.

    This seems legit?

Nah I believe he means on the other side of the plenum, hence the question about the alternator. I've seen this before and it just looks limp. When u see it u'll know what I mean.

Issue with this setup is there generally there are no baffles to distribute the air evenly to the 1st and 6th runner.

The bonnet scoop will not help u in this situation only because it is all confined under the bonnet.

If you are determined to do it I rEckon putting the battery in the boot and making a second air box in that location would be the go.

Just put a ducted scoop on it (you could cut the back off a group A scoop to make a cowl induction scoop) and just run a pod off each side.

    Oh and a mafless tune

That setup is a whole bunch of fail. Think of what the airflow will do coming from each throttle body directly opposite each other? It will create so much turbulence and reversion in the plenum it's not funny. And without a proper tune to compensate for the fact that some cylinders will be lean and others bein starved of air it will probably rob power. I'd hazard a guess that it would rob power overall compared to a properly tuned standard manifold as you'll most likely have to fatten up the fuel on each bank (without sequential injection) to counter the detonation in a couple of cylinders meanwhile others will be running rich as because the air isn't evenly distributed.

I'd sell it and cut your losses.
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.

no sorry, i had a chat with someone in aerospace engineering ( they have more of a idea of how air works then i do ), altho car engines isnt his area of expertise he recomended go the MACE style set up, Since it isnt welded i am just waiting to get a day off work to get a extra manifold to set up a MACE style one ( side by side throttle bodies ), In saying this i have a mate who tried this set up and he said he did notice a improvement. Hope that helps regards Damien

I beg to differ mate. The standard set up on an ecotec leans out cylinders 3 and 4. With a twin tb set up, mace or come, it would be better suited for distributing air. But OPs "twin tb" set up, if the posted picture is correct its utterly hopeless.

I tend to agree here... If you insisted on having a TTB with a throttle body on opposite sides, your best bet would be to stagger them. Such that on the passenger side, you have it towards the front (To feed the front 3 runners) and on the drivers side you have it towards the rear (To feed the rear three runners).

Then if you're clever enoungh, make a mechanical linkage system to join the TB's.

This type of setup would be ideal for a twin turbo setup for symmetric looks under the bonnet.

Although, i would suggest a LOT of tinkering/research into the flow characteristics into each runner!! Maybe like, setup on a flow bench with individual Air Flow Meters on the end of each runner and playing with baffles/deflectors inside the plenum to ensure even/smooth flow into ALL runners.... possibly even make a clear plenum lid for testing only and using some kind of smoke input into the TB's to see any swirling/vortices that generate inside???

I could go on for hours about this... Would love to make my on TTB for all the reasons above... (I love to tinker) but havent got the facilities at the moment!
