So pretty much my battery went dead after the the 3 years in which I have owned it, yer normal, whatever. Went to Kmart and looked for a new battery. Being a stingy bastard I just choose the cheapest one, 66 bux. Turns the engine over pretty easily however I know can't hear my subwoofer, even though Im getting the power light on my amp.
Would this just be a case of a too smaller a battery?
$66 bucks. Did you buy the right battery as ClairBear said.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
pretty much just went into kmart, looked at 96 commodore, saw the cheapest one there, grabbed it.
Looks like I'm going back to kmart to get the heavy duty one.
That would most probably be the most likely problem though hey? all worked fine until it went dead.
In my honest opinion, its better to pay the $100 to get a decent one with a warranty.
You need to look at the battery's CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating, the higher this rating is, the better the battery. I bought an AC delco battery, (which is actually a genuine holden battery), a couple of months ago for $120, which I thought was a real bargain. It is rated at 600CCA. My old century brand one was only 420 CCA and the engine used to wind over pretty slowly with this battery, but now with this new battery fitted, the engine spins up easily and fires into life heaps quicker than it did before. I got my AC delco battery from a place called DTM (I think), who specialise in supplying batteries for all types of things.
Another auto outlet I went to, wanted around $200 for a similar battery with a similar CCA rating,so it pays to shop around first.
Also check for fuses - possibly none on the sub, but when there is a sudden change in power levels electronics sometimes decide to let the smoke out.
check to see that yourheadunit settings are right, some units you can turn the sub output on/off.
if it starts the car, its going to easily runs your sub.
cheers for the replies, ill got check fuses and have a play with the head unit sharpish
