Pretty much what the title says
Cheers
I think you may need a new box...
But it goes forward AND reverse? Manual or Auto?
Is your selector plate out of alignment?
Grab the T-bar and throw it into the lowest gear, push up (wihtout lifting release) until it stops. This should be 'Overdrive D'. Lift the release and shift up 1 spot, this should be 'N', lift release and shit one forward, this should be 'R' one more up is P.
Do they line up?
aZk.
Auto, and it's got no reverse at all, the selector is aligned, it moves into all the gears fine and all of them work except reverse, it sounds like its trying to move but the breaks are on, it just slips.
Okay so from lowest gear (1), to 2 and to 3 and then D without lifting the release, then from R it goes to N then D then 3. They all line up.
The last thing i done before it broke was A) attempted a burnout, it takes a while to actually go into Drive once i shift it and i revved it too hard before it kicked into drive and it made a large clunking noise (it always done it but it was louder this time due to excessive revving) and B) put about 1 litre of transmission fluid into it
Check the level of your auto while running and in park. Also check it's colour. It has to be pink.
I had what you had, my mate tried to move it when my vs was at his place, trans fluid was full to the brim, he shifted it into drive, revved and didn't go anywhere, revved harder and the trans hose to the radiator blew off, here is a picture of the culprit.
Check that hose if necessary, it's always better to be safe than sorry!
If I were you start off with changing the fluid out and new filter with gasket, whilst doing that replace that hose and clamps (that way you won't have a massive mess of a few liters of trans fluid all over your feet), then tighten the absolute f*ck outta the clamps and continue with the new filter, gasket and fluid.
After this is done top her up and try it out.
Done it plenty of times and never comes up too low or too high
I'm just gonna change the gearbox as the one in it now always had problems, like slipping and the 1-2 solenoid was gone (code 82 in diagnostic check)
Cheers for the helps boys
Convert to manual! Lol.
Check ebay.
you would be shocked how cheap it is to convert to manual... a reco'd auto (changeover) as an auto place is in the vacinity of aroun $2200...
If you speak to the same auto place... You will find they also service manual transmissions... so chances are, they can source AND swapover your auto to a manual.
And it probably cost about $1900 - $2000 to convert over, drive in... drive out.
It all depends if you want a reco'd manual box with 1 - 2 year warranty, or a 2nd hander with a 3month warranty???
If you have time on your side.... jump on the phone and start asking questions???
I would love to have a manual VS, but I only have my automatic license (I'm 17 and on Red P's) so I'd have to get a new license and stuff like that.
I already bought a $200 second hand gearbox from a mate (so not 100% sure if it's fully fine but if it's not I'd expect a refund)
Doing the swap this Saturday (2/09/2011), hopefully will be easier then i hope
Cheers for the help guys
You mean 3-9-11.. :P
I have an auto licence but drive manuls daily.. :P
Hope the transfer goes good man!!

I never knew how terrible the old gearbox was.. for once I have 1st gear!
