I'm gonna get a gas conversion on my VS s2 wagon, donut tank, Impco gear - $3250 in Qbn (next to Canberra) sound ok? anything extra I should ask for?. I need to reduce the fuel cost on the car, as Its a work car, and Ive done 23,000 kms in it in only 8 months. I do a bit of caravan towing, and the fuel use is just too much with a caravan on,15mpg. By its-self its ok, even good, 32mpg on the highway, but gas is the way to go, Ive had gas powerd cars before, but older ones, hows the VS cope with it?
My bro-in-law has a Falcon wagon with gas - gets good economy on the gas, almost as good as petrol, but when towing his caravan he uses double the gas amount so that's pretty similar to you circumstances. Gas here is 65c and petrol $1.28 so it's almost half the cost. You also get extended oil changes with gas. If I had a chance to change to gas I would not hesitate. The gas companies have comparison charts at their websites to work out how long it takes to pay for itself.

I have another post here with the ultimate LPG system - have a look there much better than Impco.
I use
#1 an Airod convertor -
#2 Airod variable mixer - you probably wont be able to get one of these - Blos off Ebay is available & probably better..
#3 dual map Memcal for the computer - EST Map for LPG / & full Map for petrol modes.
#4 Pulstar plugs
#5 cold air inlet / air ram
#6 3.7 ratio diff with 205/70r15 tyres
Gives 13 L per hundred K on the highway - town driving 15L per hundred K religiously - NO loss of power on petrol due to mixer restriction - LPG operation almost as good as petrol - drive ability is perfect - no backfires with the Pulstar pulse plugs - no misfiring either when the coil fails it just stops firing.
This is the cheapest way to go for an LPG system, with nearly all the benefits of anything else / easiest to tune / most reliable / less parts & much cheaper. The only other better way is to go with liquid injection - with which you will get a horsepower increase due to the liquid cooling the air charge which would be great for fitting a turbo etc later on.
I haven't completed desired modifications as yet & should be able to do better yet. I have a New motor on the way with High comp race pistons, with the engine block & heads shaved & valve seats fitted for LPG - would have liked a camshaft but price got me there for little benefit - it should be interesting to see the benefits -With just this done ...

mate if you can stretch the money a bit more I can highly reccomend the BRC vapour injection system, regular 68L tank etc cost me 3000 after the rebate
Cannot tell the difference when it changes to gas from petrol. I am using around 14L/100km around town at the moment on a 200000+ v6
Rebuilding a motor at the moment to make better use of the LPG (raised compression etc)
From what I have been told the liquid injection is even better again but around another 1000 more expensive than the vapour injection
