hard to start

Hi, Could someone please help me I am having trouble starting my vr. when i try to start it takes about 15 seconds to start then idles poor and blows a little smoke for a few seconds then runs ok after that I have replaced the plugs,leads,fuel filter and air filter. sometimes i can hear the fuel pump prime and other times i can't I have checked error codes and all is ok how do I know for sure it is the fuel pump and if it is how do i replace it. Also how do i check the fuel regulator and where is it ?

Run an injector cleaner through? Change the battery if its old as it may just get enough volts.

Sounds like what happened to my car when I put that E10 crap in my tank...

A faulty fuel pump won't register any codes, only way i know how to check the pump is to pressure test your fuel lines, should be registering around 30psi before the injector rail and you won't hear the fuel pump whir once the lines are primed. Cant really help with the start-up issues, maybe try replacing the coil packs.

Sounds like its flooding from either dribbling injectors or leaking fuel pressure reg , remove the vacum hose from the reg and check for signs of petrol in the tube , leave the hose off for an hour or so then try restarting your car if problem still continues then have your injectors cleaned or replaced
